Hey Brad!!

That looked just like the welder I have in my shop, only it's rebranded as an Acklands welder, but it is a Miller.

If it is the same, It is not a "glorified buzzbox".....It's an excellent welder and very smooth!

I have burned (literally) TONS of rod with mine, and done lots of gouging with it as well. I just use 3/16" carbon rod when gouging.....I have an old high frequency add on box on top of mine for when I TIG aluminum.

New Thread Started In The Off Topic Forum

Well fellas I went and started a new thread in The Off Topic Forum
It's called Our House, It's all about things we do around the house or shop concerning electrical,plumbing,framing,painting houses,concrete work,remodeling,painting inside and out,all that sort of stuff.I know there's a lot of talented people here that do their own work around the house so maybe you talented fellas may be able to help some of us not so talented guy's out.Thanks and hope we can get some action on there. I picked up an old made in the USA Bink Wren airbrush, and an old DeVilbiss paint gun.

Also picked up a reloading kit for 12 and 20 gauge... gotta buy some powder and start loading!!

Anyone know where to get a new hose for the airbrush? I noticed it was missing from the kit, otherwise everything, including the instructions, were there.

All of the stuff I got for what I consider a great deal... I bought all of this stuff off of the same guy at the same garage sale. He had money in his pocket after I bought some stuff, and yes, I did work the prices down a little, but did not lowball him at all. I recognized the value of these quality items and respected his wishes of the prices being fair, and the items going to a good home.

The reloading press is a Mec 600 Junior... it's 15 years old and operates and looks like new. Damn good little press. For what I paid for it, I also got a bunch of wads, #6 shot, and a bag of hulls. Also, the blocks that hold the shells, and extra charge bars, powder and shot bottles, a manual for loading shells and recommended loads, and the manual to the press itself. I did good on that deal.

The guy was selling it because as he put it, he has enough for a lifetime. I take that's a #### ton of shells...

Check evilbay for airbrush hoses. . . There are also many online stores with them.

Started building a big stand for my big vise and to do some hammering etc. on last night:

The bases are two 18" pieces of 12" x 6" I-beam, then a piece of 12"x 3" channel, and a 15" x 6" I-beam on top of that. The latter two were already welded together as they are at the mill, so i just put them on a base.

And ya Rob. you're right, it is a very smooth welder. I still prefer 3-phase welders though! This one does buzz and vibrate a lot like my little buzzbox I was using before, but I suppose that's just the nature of big single-phase transformers. Either way it works great, welded that above weld with 1/8" 7018 @ 120A. Or at least it was set at 120, honestly it felt a bit more like 105-110. But it worked well, that's all i care about!

So I got:
2 saws-Craftsman/Poulan 3400 runs off prime and an Echo 330EVL ran as well. both in good shape

Forgot to take a pic of the DeVilbiss. It's your standard run of the mill bottom siphoning out of the container stainless steel spray gun... simple, reliable, and effective.

Some guys prefer to use one of these rather than a HVLP gun.

I found these odd pliers/whatchamacallits a couple days ago at work, all rusted solid and locked up. A bit of work with the wire wheels on the bench and die grinders and some WD-40 on the joints and they're good to go. I have no idea what they're for though; they're about 2' long and I've never seen jaws like that on a tool before. About a third of the thickness of them, about 3/8" or so, is like a bypass shear, but in the other section there remains a gap of a quarter inch or so even when they're completely closed, which you can see quite well in the second pic. Any ideas? They look pretty interesting (and menacing) sitting on the workbench even if I don't know what they're for, though. The only markings I can find on them read "KONGSBERG Made in Norway".

From what I can find online, it was manufactured in the 1970's.

I think it looks like some type of chain tool.

Have Niko (saw troll) look into it for you, as he's Norwegian.

Salt Question

Not really a tool question, but you are the guys that would know (well, the northern guys anyway).

The carpet in my car has a thick build up of salt on the driver's side. Hard lumps of it that seem resistant to water, carpet cleaner, etc. I tried wetting and scraping some of it off.

Anything that will dissolve this easily without dissolving the carpet? Or should I just keep wetting it and scrubbing?

Obviously they're for reindeer shoes.

Heres a few more I picked up from a guy ive done buisness with. The tool chest is a DUPLEX, not a whole lot of info on them, the cart is a WILLIAMS which is now part of the Snapon company. The rest of the tools he had in the scrap pile. The massive pipe cutter weighs about 30lbs and is srom AMERICAN TOOLS, the crimpers are very nice and are NICOPRESS, not very old and not cheap either. He also had 2 rolls of band saw blades, and one roll still oin the DoAll tin, Im putting the tin up on my display shelf in the shop cause its cool and dated 1959.
