Hey,

I bought a saw a few months ago with the tool less chain tensioner system and now it is loosening on it's own while the saw is running. Has anyone else had the same problem with the system and if so do you have any ideas on how I can fix it.

First off, it's dangerous, second, it sucks to have to stop cutting every ten minutes to retighten your chain.

Regards

I'd search the Chainsaw forum. There was a thread in the last day or two on Stihl's tooless system. I assume yours is on a Stihl?

For what its worth...those toolless chain tensioners suck! There are too many bits and pieces, the cogs wear out the plastic, they make it more time consuming and cumbersome to take off the bar for maintenance & cleaning. If yours is loosening, check where the cog meshes with the other bit, it may be worn. Or you are not lifting the nose of your bar UP when tensioning the chain.

I reckon they made something dead simple, two nuts and a combi spanner into something over engineered to be simple, that really isn't...kinda like the oil / gas cap thing but worse...

Holy crap, ain't that the truth!!!:dizzy:

Amen my brothas

I wrote the company and they are mailing me a "kit" so I can transition the saw from the bull#### they have on it to a "normal" (in my eyes) saw.

I use the saw a lot, 4 times a week for a good 6 hours at a wack so I spun the bar around. It's been happening for a while so I can't remember if it only started happening since I flipped the bar or if it happened prior. All I know is I like the old school.
