Amoungst My Saws........Fool That Has Too Many!!!
I had a chat with a salesmen at Sailnet today, I'm getting a sample of 6mm New England Endura braid. It has a weight rating of 4000 lbs. Goes for around $.80 per foot. Two different configurations are available: w/cover 4000 lbs., w/o cover 8000 lbs. The only difference is the cover but the weight rating doubles. Go figure. Anyway, has anyone had any experience with this cord?

6mm is awfully small. Dissipation of heat from friction will be an issue. Tim Gardner used 6mm for a while but went back to a larger cord.

The vast majority of climbers using advanced hitches use 5/16" (8mm) or 3/8".

8mm makes for some bulky double fisherman knots. This is the only reason I opted for the 6mm. If this is not the way to go I'll try 8mm.

I agree with Brian and would like to add that 6 mm on 1/ 2"
arbor rope might bind too much if you try to use the distel
or similar hitch.

What carabiner are you using Rich?
On top of the petzl williams there is no problem fitting
two fishermans and a slack tender pulley.
Another solution would be to splice your tress cords,
a little extra work, but less bulky.

I am using a Petzel ball lock. As far as splicing goes, It would be a while before I would trust my own splices. Maybe this is why I haven't tried splicing. I wish I knew someone in my area who did splicing!

Rich - I'm using 5/16" Sta-Set for my friction hitches which I purchased from Sailnet for .29 per foot. It also has a 4k weight rating.

After climbing with it on my 1/2 blue streak for a couple months, I'm thinking that it is a bit too small.... tends to bind up sometimes on my blue streak. Don't know how it fares on other climbing ropes. Next time, I think I'll go with a bigger diameter like 3/8" or 7/16"....

I went for the 5/16" because the price was real good at .29

I can't use that 8mm Sta-set on my blue streak. Especially not with a distel. Bites too hard and binds. Works good on my XTC and X-perience. Now I am using some 8mm Mammut cord. It performs really nice but melts like butter so when this is gone, back to sta-set and something else.

I just use a klemheist on my blue streak as it is only my entry line now.

Has anyone used that 9 or 10 mm pumpkin cord from fresco?? I have some I need to try.

I want something that bites less. I am using a 4-2 vt and it work well but sometimes it bites when I least expect it - like when I am jumping out for a limb and it suddenly stops paying out stopping me short and leaving me dangling.

I experienced some lock up when I put my 8mm Sta-Set on the Sherrill Pro-Spec that I bought. Using a 3 over 1 distel. I just shortened the cord today so I will let you know how that works out.

Nate, with the vt you can change the way it bites with the length of cord. Try a 4 & 3 with a longer length of your current cord. The longer the cord the less it bites, the shorter it is the harder it bites.

Cord ID help please!!

I was using the black "pumpkin cord" from
fresco w/ fly today on the 4-3 vt Tim suggested.
PERFECTO!!!

I would like to get more and not be dependent
on one source. It looks a lot like this stuff in a BIGJOHN pic.

anyone know who makes this or the "pumpkin cord"??
I also want to know what the "pumpkin cord" is so
I know what I am hanging my life on....

Thanks - Nate

apologies for the size of the pic

EDIT:
Idiot boy just answered his own question.
Didn't see cord on the site before...

The pumpkin line I recieved from them about a year ago was a static line only good for footlocking. The cork in the picture lookes like a double braid.
