Some of the people who compete in a lot of categories of saw racing must have a hefty investment in either time or money for all the different bars and chains you would need for different saws and different conditions. What kind of money do you have to spend before you start gettin some trophys. I have the feeling you are not in it for the money!

Good question,
Cheepest way...... place in a stock saw event where they give you the saw. If you are going to race stock, stock appearing and hotsaws then be prepared to pay. I have a saw that already has $2500 in to it and will probably get just over another $700 dropped into it. That is just one saw I race. Sprocket and chain combinations are key. If you get them right it makes a big difference in cutting speed. Also a big factor is time. you can't take a saw overnight and expect to win the first time out. But if you learn how to run that saw. Every time you run it you will get faster. As for total cost in saws, chains, bars and all the other stuff I need to get the saws to perform like they do...... I'm probably around $10k. And the question is... " do I win any.... not yet, but hopefully this year. I usally fall just out of the $ by placing in the 6th to 11th positions. I just need more time and $ and I will be there.:blob1:

No, I'm not thinking of doing it. I wonder what it is that drives a person to expend the amount of time and money it takes to get you even close to the door. From reading about what goes into making up a winning race chain I can imagine each of these jewels would be pricey and very specific to one size saw and wood. You can sure bet when you win regularly, you arent just lucky, you have paid your dues.

????, chainsawworld, that is an impressive amount of trophies. How long did it take to win all of those? Are they all from chainsaw racing?

Looking for a race chain?

I am currently interested in a racing chain.
If anyone knows of someone that makes racing chain please let me know. (I have tried Art and Ken but get no response so I assume they only build for the Aleat (sp?))

Here is another way to look at this issue. The faster the saw can rev. the faster it it going when it hits the wood. Now most people here a Hp Junkies (me included) If you take a drag car and remove the stock steel wheels, the steel drive shaft and the heavy weight fly wheel and replace all that with billet Aluminum componets there is a mass reduction. Because you are moving less mass you have more Hp and tork to put to the ground where it is needed.
This relates to the chain on a saw. Less mass the more avalible power for cutting.

:D
