The primary question is hopefully not to dumb. I have a chance to buy a 1986 Vermeer 665 for $500. The problem is that the pulley shaft broke off the motorshaft. I assume that I will have to replace the crankshaft and pulley at least. The motor does run.
The question is: what model engine is used on this grinder? It is a Wisconsin gas engine.
Second, is it worth the effort? Thanks

The problem that the cranks break is the strain on end of crankshaft from the drive belts. I lost 3 engines on a 2465 Vermeer and went to an 80HP Diesel with a rockford clutch. Its hard to find those long crankshaft. If you want to stick with a V465D Wisc, I would find one with a rockford clutch so the strain is on the clutch. Wisc or Vermeer came out with an outboard bearing for the long shaft crankshaft. It worked OK but I would use a clutch. We change a few over to clutches and never had a problem. Good Luck
