Im looking at a 06 bc1400xl with just under 3000hrs on it. (i know 3000 is alot) It has a winch and hydraulic feed shoot adjustment. It had 1 owner. It started fine no rattles or leaks. The feed wheels looked good and so did the drum. It has a few minor issues he made me aware of: The hydro feed shoot isn't working, motor works fine but isn't touching the gears on the shoot enough to turn. Seems like a simple fix. It hit something like a stump in the back and bent the metal below the infeed and broke the lights off. Again doesn't seem like a big deal. The only thing that is in question is the drum belly underneath has a six crack in it from hitting something. It's not open up more then a 16th of an inch. Looks like a good weld would fix it. Is this something to worry about?

Is there anything I should be looking at before I decide to purchase?

What do you think is a reasonable price for something like this?

Are you planning on paying over 10K for it as it stands? I'd keep looking if so.

nah dude! I seen your crap on CL. I good on that thanks.

and what exactly is the problem with my equipment, and please explain to me why you would rather buy a vermeer bc1400 with a cracked drum, rather then a chipper from me ?please do explain

It doesn't have cracked drum, I don't know where you got that from. Well lets see first it only four years old and runs good. Your stuff seems to be very old and looks beat up. Second it has a winch, I haven't seen any thing you have with a winch. Third I really don't like pushy salesmen trying to solicit me on the internet. Just seems shady:dizzy:

bc 1400 vermeer with crack or break

Just a thought to check into......

A salesman I have been dealing with at my Vermeer dealer has been honest enough to steer me away from buying one of their used bc 1400's.

He mentioned the 1400's are seeing heavy vibration.....more than usual on a chipper from a problem with the Caterpillar engine being poorly internally balanced while running.....he mentioned the John Deere engine is not having this excess vibration problem.

The 1400 model is no longer in production you may note! I like Vermeer....every manufacturer has an engineering problem here and there.

However.....I don't know if this crack or break you're speaking of is from the 1400's ongoing "SHAKING TO PIECES" problem or from a foreign object being run through the drum....or bad bearings.

I'd be careful regardless on that purchase.

NEW bc 1200xl......anybody have knowledge of how these Vermeers are holding up. They are a new model as of 2009 dealer tells me.....I'm looking at a new bc1200 because it fits my nitch.....1300 lbs less than the 1500 (easier on lawns and hauling/fuel costs). Have winch with 12" capacity and optional 110 hp John Deere. Problem is I'm not hearing of anyone running them?

just a piece of advice

The crack on the belly pan was probably caused by the foreign object, but with 3,000 hours on the machine the belly pan is probably worn out anyway and would have to be replaced. A belly pan replacement can probably cost you $1,000 to $2,000 and hopefully you get somebody that knows what they are doing. Another good point to add is that with that many hours you are probably looking at new drum bearings, wheel bearings and brakes, a full service, a new clutch and much more. If you are mechanically inclined and can do the work yourself and if you get a good deal on it you might be ok, but you might be better off to pay more for a machine with less hours. Good luck

I'd pass it up. The tree co. that leases the building next to me has one and it is nothing but problems. seems like a lot of issues with sensors/ switches. Probably why they make the 1500 now.
