i just need to know a couple more things......do john's mufflers have those infamous screens everyone talks about ??....and some of the pics i've seen of other muffler jobs, will i have to trim some plastic?

Guff I the mufflers that John sells are a direct bolt on no trimming needed,as far as the screen goes if it has one it's the first one I've seen with it there.Excellent work though looks stock except for the pipes

so, with or without a screen...will there be a difference..what is a screen's true purpose??

The only reason for the screen is for a spark arrestor so you don't set the woods on fire other than that it will also help keep crap out of the engine also..

do the hi-po mufflers by mr. walker contain such an arrestor? and how does your 385 beast function with the upgrade?? without a screen, will i lose the back 40?

I can't provide an answer about whether Walker's units have screens, but I'd use a screen on any working ground saw.  It should give the occasional flaming hunk of carbon enough time to cool off; though perhaps more importantly, it will keep those industrious and pesky mud daubers out during the down time.

Walkers modified mufflers usually only have the factory screen intact I don't believe that they put any in the pipes atleast mine does'nt have it and I have not seen any like that..You will notice a difference in power,I think you will be alright without the screens in, my saws have the factory screen and I use them daily without incident and I'm sure so do many others.I did notice a difference in power when I added the muffler to my 385 but if you really want a difference in power I would suggest emailing one of the many great saw builders here on the site such as Dan Henry,Ken Dunn,Dennis Greffard,and all the others they have very reasonable prices and they all do excellent work and you get big gains,since I added the muffler I sent the saw to Dan Henry and had it Power Ported and I can tell you it's alot faster than my stock 3120XPG the saw just flat out kicks a$$..

Did you make any timed cuts with that slow PP385 yet?
I just finished up a stock appearing 2171 for myself,that might just kick that PP385's butt.LOL I do however have close to 20 hours just in the barrel.

No Dan I have'nt timed any cuts with it yet hopefully this week,I did try it out the day I got it back and then tried my 3120 and it definetly will out cut that no problem,send me some pics of that jug and 2171 I'm interesed in what it looks like..Oh yeah don't you worry you will see the PP385 again when I come over..We'll put her to the test don't you worry..

You have my sincerest apology,I really dint take notice that this thread was about your work until I reread it.I am truly sorry about that,I dont want to step on anyone's toes.
My fingers worked before my brain did.

I have had the opportunity to see a few of Walkers mufflers and I can assure you that thy are first rate and as stated above they look like they belong on the saw.

Just got to try my 372xp out yesterday with my new Walkers muffler(has the spark arrestor screen). It definitely increased the torque of the saw. I think it was worth the $$$ spent. It really has a bark to it now!

i'd like to thank everybody who's helped me out..i know i'm gonna be very thrilled with the power upgrade...and when i get my new 066 in about a month,,,it is going to be totally WALKERIZED!!!

I had the muffler on my 038 Mag done by Walkers and it is great!!
I did notice that there is no screen in place.
Not sure if I should install one or not.

i talked to john on the phone tonight and the walkerized mufflers for my 260, my 440, and my faithful beat up 066 should be here in a couple days...and yes i'm gonna get a complete new walkerized 066 direct from john really soon...but nobody tell my other half, her birthday's in only two weeks...........thanks again, all you guys are terrific! guff
