Hey Guys,
I am a diehard Stihl fan, but their lack of new technology is starting to piss me off. I have never been the best at tuning saws, so the autotune technology on the 441 c-m chainsaws sounds perfect for me. Except for the fact that the saw costs almost a grand and it would be much more saw than i would ever need. Husqvarna has started putting the autotune feature into some of their smaller saws, like the 550 and the 562. I have never owned a Husky, but Stihl is lagging in the incorporation of their technology into their smaller saws, so I guess I have no choice. I am really looking for a 60cc class saw. Are their any other saws in this class I should look at before getting a 562xp? Along with husky, I would be interested in any j-red or dolmar saws.

Why do you need technology? Saws that just have raw power and a basic setup are my favorites.

As far as a new saw, might want to check out the Dolmar 7910. I used to own a 7900, and they are great saws with awesome power to weight ratios. Put an HD filter kit on it and you have yourself a nice all around work saw.

Rather than buying a whole new saw (not that there's anything wrong with that!) why not spend $100 or so on a really good tachometer?

It takes all the guesswork out of tuning & if you follow one of the great tutorials out there (ie the very methodical one by madsens, here: Carb Tuning ) you will not only solve your current situation, you will become much better at maintaining ALL of your saws.

Just my 2¢ though :)

To the point of sounding like a smart@$$ you did read the OP's post right?

:potstir:

Well I say go for it. I can't say one has better pro-saws than the other, both are good saws and if one has the features that work for you then try that out. Tuning isn't hard and unlike some that should braze a knob directly to the hi-side screw.... I don't find the adjustment need messing with all that much.

I think maybe the OP is asking "Does anyone else have self-tuning carbs yet on their saws?" Which I believe the answer is no, only Stihl and Husky at this point.

I keep waiting to see the fi come to the saw personally... or for someone to try to convert the ts500i fi over to a saw

The husky 555 is 60 cc with auto tune and is about $100 less expensive than the 562. It has slightly less power and slightly less weight. The jonsered versions are not out yet.

The 562 owns the 60cc class of saws. Im waiting for the Johnsered 2260 myself. In 60cc saws there is no need to look any further.

Jktbama,

I'm right there with you. Which steels do you currently own? The 562xpat is nice, but similar in price to the MS441C, only in my area it seems, so why not just jump up a notch. The outboard clutch and brake of the Husqys definitely help with sideways balance while in the cut, but can be cumbersome to swap bar and chains. It cost about $50 more, but I opted for the "R" on my steel to help offset its poor sideways balance. It's so tough to pick a good saw with this site always nagging at your decision. I had a MS362 for six weeks, but it just wasn't the right saw for me.

LOL. Did Sawtroll change his user name? :D

OP: Go get yourself a 562xp if you can afford it. They are really nice saws with gobbs of power. Perfect firewood saw IMO.

So you're pissed off that Stihl hasn't developed some amazing new technology and put it in a cheap saw for you?

Pretty sure the 241 and 362 both come with C-M carbs..

Of all the issues to argue, "Sideways balance while in the cut" is the most important to me. Horsepower, weight, vibes, reliability, dealer network, reputation, price, and serviceability are all of second consideration to me. It has taken me a while to realize it, but saw comfort is king!

I hadn't heard anything about the 362 having C-M and the 241 isn't available in the US last I knew.

my stihl dealer said that the only saw that had an autotune feature was the 441. I did not know about the husky 555. I would like to hear from anyone who has one of those, because the only difference I can find between the 555 and 562 is about .4 hp and revboost. And a lot of silver paint haha. I'm going tomorrow and seeing if my husky dealer has both saws in stock and try them for feel, fit and finish.

I am a HUGE fan of the M-Tronic 441. I use mine every chance I get and then some - I use it often where my ported 2153 would be great, but just love the smoothness, aggressiveness and superb top-end burst of my C-M. I bet you would too.

555 is small mount and 562xp is large which allows longer bars and the techlites

Go get a Husky, then Stihl will start putting Mtronics on everything. Hopefully they start with the 261 and then quickly go to a 661 and then back to the 461, then 362 ............ then 880......... do the 201 in their spare time.
