Hey everybody I'm lookin for a new Stihl 066 with a 24 inch bar. I want a cash and carry deal. My local dealer is a little pricy. I just want the saw. What is a comparable Husky?

Thanks the Hoosier

Hi Hoosier I can sell you a 394xpg with a 24 " bar and chain for $ 1000.00 Canadian, converts to approx $ 650.00 U.S.
Great buy, saw retails for 1200.00 Canadian.
Saw has half wrap handle bars and heated pistol grip and handle bars. I Can Ship it to you Prepaid any where in the U.S. for $ 30.00 Canadian= $ 20.00 U.S.

stihl 066 is a bad mother - the husky 385 is even more so. Apparently after tuning them the 385 stands even further ahead. husky about $700 with bar & chain delivered if you can find a good deal. lots of guys here who can give you good deals. :blob2:

the 394/395 is more equivalent to the 088 and weighs about a 1# more than the 385.

066 or 389

I plan on using the saw dual purpose. Mostly running a mill and occasionaly blocking out some Indiana hardwoods. The fall tornados that swept through here down some large old timber. Most of us were using our smaller saws to handle some pretty big stuff. I have no real basis for comparing the husky saws (because I havn't owned one yet). However, in October the local cemetray took a severe beating from mother nature. Large oak, black walnut fell knocking over tomb stones and blocked roads. some fourty acres was devistaed in just in and around the cementary. Many of us showed up a couple Sundays to help saw. 2/3 of the arborists used Husky the remainder Stihl. After sawing and observing, I'm confidnet that both of these products are top notch!

You cant beat a 394 for $650. However if you are going to use it in a mill it doesnt have a side chain tensioner. I think the 385 does but dont quote me on that.

the 394 is a good power head. the only problem i have with it is with a 24 inch bar i can not keep the 2 shoe clutch locked up. the 395 may have the 350 degree clutch pack to maintain chain speed. just something to look into. protect yourselves; marty

Yes the 385 has a side adjuster the same as the 372. My self i do milling with the woodbug and when i do larger 20' stuff the max the mill will handle , I need the 394s power. I have been milling last weekend some 8-12" red cedar tops and have been using a Walkerized 357xp with 30" bar .050 guage with 91vs chain and grinding the chain 5 degrees to act like ripping chain.
Has less kerf and ample power. works great
If your milling 24" and under i think the 385 will do the job for you as well.

For 650 dollars US there you can’t beat that deal. Even I would consider buying a Husky then (O Stihl gods please forgive me). If JW can do that for a 394 I would certainly call him up and ask about a price for a 385XP though (side tensioner). That saw has tremendous potential and its light enough for you to use it off the mill too.

john b,

Go for JW's deal on the 394, that is awesome.

tundra, a stock 394 is rated at less hp than a 066, and is a tad heavier. That is why I own 2 066 Magnums with the dual ported muffler. 7.7 hp was the old rating, it is lower now.

Ken Dunn says the 066 is/was the hottest stock saw made, and therefore cant be beefed up as easily.

I'm selling my older 066 to a bud, and with a 372 and 3120 in my quiver, cant see getting a 385 and tweaking it just yet. Would sure love too, though!! Same with that sweet and soooo smooth 357, as I have 2 036's and a 034 super, and they are sure nice.

Husky has sure caught and passed Stihl , it would seem.

By the way, where's the tundra in Arky? Never saw any when I lived in Searcy.............but that was pre Billary.

John W, if you ever get some pictures taken of your personal chainsaw milling please send me the link.
Thanks.
Kevin Watson.

Johnb, WHERE ARE YOU IN iNDIANA?I have a few differnt saws you are welcome to come and try out if you would like.I have a husqvarna 372,a stihl066,and an 088.I live in the thriving metropolis of Milford. It's about 15 miles north of Warsaw.I've got a large amount of wood you can use to check out saws in.I use to have a stihl 046 but traded it for a new set of tires!Anyway your more than welcome to come and check out what I have.the deal on the 394 is less than I have in my modified 372.The 394 is a good saw.YOU should try a husky.:D Dan

395xpg or 394xpg?

I agree that is a great price! I will follow up with ya John on that deal. I just looked on the Husky sight and they show the 395xpg in the US and the 394xpg in Canada? they have identical looking specs. Is there a difference? The 395xpg was listed as a new saw. Or is just the 394xpg with new plastic? Thanks for all the input guys! I'll make a decision soon. the Hoosier

Hi keven I sold the mill today and will have to wait for a couple of weeks to get another and i will be taking some pics for you.

Johnb the 395xpg is also available. the 394 is discountinued but i bought the last 40 from Ontario a couple of months ago because when the 395 came out there was alot of carb problems with them and there still is on some of them, the high speed adj is really touchy. the swedish engineers which come to visit us say the 395 was really difficult to meet EPA. Really havent sold many 395 as the 385 came out and that saw has taken over the market.
Have switched many a Stihl guy to 385 from 066. Lighter as much power Walkerized and half the vibration.
You all can thank us for the 385 as we did 3 years of testing with the factory and put alot of input into it, we love it.
When your ready give me a call

John W
