Hey guys new to A.S. I need help in purchasing a saw. I will be using it on the weekends upstate to cut up some small stuff.(aplle orchard ,downed limbs) I currently use an 029Super for the big stuff. I have been using a saw for the past 15 years still doesn't make me a pro. I am interested in the Stihl MS210 with a 14" bar for $240. My friend likes the MS170 with a 12" bar for $170. I gave the background scenario because I dont know wether to purchase a professional grade saw or an intermediate one. Basically, I need a saw that can take abuse and wont break.

Welcome to the site!

I suspect that either of those two saws, or the MS180, would be an appropriate choice for the use you have planned for it. The MS170 has the advantage of being free of the EZStart and tool-less chain tensioning crap, which is a point in its favor. Since you have a bigger saw already, I'd probably go with the smaller, lighter machine in the interest of keeping weight down on the little saw knowing I have the bigger one to turn to if it is needed.

I have a 210,but it's not much better,as far as endurance goes,as the 180..If you want to upgrade, then look into a 346 husky or a MS260 stihl..Both saws are made to take it.

Kinda curious........how do you like that 029 Super? I just bought one about a month ago. I'm working on getting it up and running soon. Mine is about the same shape as yours. What size of bar are you running?

I bought my wife a dolmar 401 for her to use and i find myself using it more then my big saws....Great power...pro specs and pretty darn inexpensive...worth a look...
