Jim,
I have a theory about weak oilers, what about using a thinner oil like the winter grade stuff provided it isn't really hot out like the middle of summer. It still has tackifiers and should lube well. just a thought that may be refuted by others. I really don't cut enough with one saw to see if there is a marked difference in longevity.

buck,
I've also wondered about the use of thinner oils for winter use or anemic oilers. I was thinking about synthetics like some of the newer firearms lubricants. I emailed Husqvarna about a year ago and they said that due to it's short term use it couldn't justify the expense for synthetics.

It's funny you mention winter grade oils... I was looking for some to run in my saw, I think my brother inlaw can get me some up in Vt. and bring it down with him next time. I can't seem to find any around here.
Alot of people I know with Johny reds and newer huskies all say the same thing about the oilers. I think when they went with the new "oil saver" technology they messed up. The only time I really notice it is when I cut dead stand or real big stuff.:chainsaw:
