You also can't compare discount to list.
I'm not. (at least not since Trigger-Time offered up a price from the dealer)
A $100 here and there at "list" make little difference - in the 880 the added HP and fully adjustable carb can justify that.
0.2 HP more? Woop-de-do. Though I do agree, I hate the fixed HS jet, but not worth the additional $300+ though.
When comparing discount prices, there is also the question of whos bar/chain is shipped with the saw...
HA! I knew that was coming and beat you to the punch. See my previous post.

Stihl will not offer an equal or better price for saws of comparable class and CC's. Note that I said, "will not" rather than "can not." Not as long as they remain the #1 selling saw, and maintain their customer following. That's one more reason I prefer Husqvarna. They have to strive harder, by providing ever better products in an attempt to overcome Stihl's "status symbol" sales lead. I actually prefer Stihl to be on top for this very reason. Keeps them busy over at Husky. ;)

Here are our saws:

Missing from that picture is one 046 Magnum that was in the shop and we just bought a new 460 Magnum. Oh, and a 028 we got from a guy that we did a job for. :)

Thats what i'm talking about. Sure is nice when you run the best.

Somebody please explain to me again...why is Stihl in the lead???...:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

let me see orange has made my living twenty years
and even a few of the two colored saws. They have
kept me in shape and gave me a couple of battle marks
and have kept me at the bottom or near in the tax bracket.
I wish I could have been more animate on computers or law
would be making big bucks then:laugh: Money is not the
reason for doing what we do it is instilled in us by our forefathers
we see a tree and just like George we have to cut on it:laugh:

Husky's biggest problem has been distribution and keeping a good dealer base together. They are #2 by the gap that they are because of it. Although I have a preference for Stihls, I would buy a Husky in a heartbeat since I know they are both great saws. This is largely due to dealer support. I'm not in the "woods", so we don't get many guys around here who really know saws that well, especially big ones. The little stuff, sure. The Husky dealers are the "4 little saws on the wall" type with the 455 topping the list. Saw a 460 in the "wild" last week, as well as a 359. Those are rare sights on the prairie.

I like the orange, keeps the green in my wallet. I’d probably add a two tone...if I were loaded…

Will be interesting now when Stihls will start having "Made in China" on the cover, how that will be recieved by the market.

For me, high sales have always been in contradiction with performance, in every business. The MS290 is the ultimate proof that this is true also for chainsaws. Personally I don't want an ordinary/reliable/proven/cheap/normal .. chainsaw. I want the best chainsaw.

Same with cars. I drive BMW, not Volkswagen. Stihl equals Volkswagen with high sales, mature technology bla bla.. I prefer Husky for the uncompromising "Pro feeling". What some say that Husky is a one man saw and a Stihl can be used by many, I don't buy it. My 262XPG has cut many 2-3 times more wood than my 026. Only thing I've done is to secure the cover screws from unwinding with loctite. The 026 has had a broken front handle, handle heating failure, cluth problems, leaking fuel caps and above all idle problems. I know you can't judge a brand after having problems with one saw but still. I think Husky has equal or superior quality than Stihl.
