What do you guys think of this Ford truck

I might be in the market for a new firewood hauler. I'm thinking about replacing my F-550. It has no power and the MPG for a truck it's size just plain suck. I found this truck ad I have looked it over. I haven't driven it yet. I don't want to waste the guys time until I am ready to buy. I'm not sure I will like the automatic tranny. Also I don't know anything about the 7.8 210hp ford engine. Please let me know if this truck would be a good one or not.

I think your on the right track. We've been looking for a little nissan npr with a 14' bed. I wouldn't hesitate on the allison automatic, we've had several trucks with them and haven't ever had an issue with them and we've pulled alot of heavy loads of hay and farm equiment with them. I don't know anything about the engine, I'm sure someone will chime in. The price sure seems like it is in line, as the truck doesn't have any miles on it. The dump is a necessity. If there is no bad history on that particular engine, I think it would serve the purpose of someone in the firewood business in an excellent manner.

I bought a ford school bus(87 model) that was 4 years old at the time and ran it on the route for 8 years,had 50000 miles on it when i got it,had 210000 when i traded it off and the only money spent on the engine was to replace the fuel shut off solnoid.Had a 5 and 2 tranny and got 9 1/2 mpg.Wifes bus had the Brazilian 6.6 and it was a good engine also.I would'nt hesitate to buy another one,hope this helps. What year F550 and what Engine?

If it's a diesel, you can spend a couple grand and get it 100% better power and fuel mileage wise.

:agree2: If its a 7.3 depending on the year your looking at about 225 -250 hp. If its a 6.0 you got 325 hp and look foward to lots of repair bills. That 7.8 is going to feel weak with a auto, and will defently have worse fuel milage.

I had a f 700 with a 13 foot flat bed and the 7.8 L. Good ole truck. Had a 5 speed tranny with the 2 speed rearend. Not a power house though.
