Ok so as promised (in my intro thread)......what do yall use for brands? Any partifular reason? Any particular reason you don't like the others?

Oh boy this should make for some interesting conversation......I'm sure that I will learn something.

Just keep in mind I am absolutly stuck in my shoes there is nothing you can do to change my mind about my faith in brand.....I'll explain....but later.

Try the search feature....animated discussions hve been endless for years.

Personally, I run Husky, Stihl, Echo, Shindaiwa. Most have been modified by our saw builder gurus. And lust to run the Dolmar PS 7900 and Efco 962C. Plus I have a Partner P100 powerhead on a dinky stump grinder...I think it is much the same saw as a Husky 2100.

Hi Joey-

People have their particular favorites for a reason. Maybe one brand is carried by a dealer close to where they live that gives good service. Another reason may be because a certain brand has characteristics that an individual user really likes. Mine for example, is the Jonsered 930 Super for firefighting. To most people, these are big, heavy, slow saws. But after modifications and some more aggressive components ( handlebars, dawgs, air filter system, thin ring piston ) these monsters will fall any tree on the planet and do it comfortably.

Mostly Husky here. No real special reason - Stihl and Echo make fine saws too, I just happen to be more familiar with their product line and they never let me down.

I will only run Dolmar, Husqvarna, Stihl, Echo, Poulan , Solo and John Deere... Until I get another brand.:D

My reason for liking Stihls is more mundane than dealer support or features. My friend gave me a Christmas present or two Stihls: an 031 and an 045 Super. That was all I needed. If he had given me Jonsey's or a Husky my preferences would be very different.

Turns out that all my old Stihls were/are top-notch saws.

i use ,295 poulan pro,a partner 500,
a 036 stihl. but i dont worry if one developes a problem, as i can pull out a 028 stihl . a 64 cc echo 650 evl ,and a 65cc farmsaw by pioneer[yes i finally got that deal to come togather]] .
and i think my 2nd string is 2nd string only because pts are harder to find for some ofum. i got confidence in their ability to hold up an do what they were made for.
if my 372 ever gets here, that dan gave me. the stable of saws will be second to none, i know of in this area. the fact that i can put out a decent chain ,,dont hurt none either.

i run stihl020t and 046. I have john deere cs62 with 18 inch bar as my middle size saw and i think it sucks compared to the stihl

I started out using an old Homelite behemoth nearly 30 years ago, then it was Stihl, then Echo in the day when they were orange, then Stihl again until quality and warranty issues pissed me off and I went primarily to Husky. Once I started running a Husky 371 I knew what I had been missing and I feel like Stihl has to do some catching up technologically. It`s funny that I say I`m primarily pro Husky because I currently have an ms460 mag, two ms260 pro, three 026s, and did I tell you what a piece of sh!t the 019T is? It was the 046 that tipped me over regarding Stihl, but although I have only run the 460 for a few minutes before putting it in storage I can tell that they have made a few improvements. Can you guess that I really like the 026/ms260 even though I really like the 346 Husky as well?

Stihl dealer arrogance is another factor which when coupled with the typical incompetence I`ve found in the Stihl dealers that seem to be located every few miles around here, that adds up to give me an overall negative opinion of Stihl. Many if not most of these dealers are not "saw men" and the dealerships lack quality in my book. Throw in the stinginess of the Stihl warranty in this area and it`s like, why go there. Another beef I have is why did Stihl discontinue the lifetime warranty on their ignitions? Isn`t that regressive?

So at any rate, I have a mixed bag of saws also including Solo and Echo, and maybe even a Dolmar or two by the end of next week. Oh yeah, and an Efco? that just arrived yesterday. I think blind, across the board brand loyalty is shallow and not well reasoned.

Mostly Stihl, but a Husky on occasion, and an old Homelite Super XL130 for fun once in a while

Welcome to the forum Joey

I have five Stihls and two Dolmar (PS7900&PS9000).And the 7900 leaves with me every morning. I don't like most Stihl dealers in SW Wisconsin and have been banned from one for talking a customer out of a new Stihl. Most Pro Stihls are high quality though. Seth
I find there is nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the short comings of the ms460 to dealers&customers

I am a husky man as well and waiting on my first Jonsered 2186 from Mr Greffard soon as he get things back in order where he lives. Jokers expressed my feelings exactly about stihl as well. It's almost as if Stihl thinks everybody should just bow to them and just be speechless when you have one of their saws in your hands. The facts is they do need to make some more improvement's and having said that I will stop there. HUSQVARNA'S the rooster in my henhouse............Later Wade

Mostly Stihl, a Homelite or two (old ones not the plastic junk) and I have a soft spot for Jonsered 49SP's, these things were built to last and are easy to work on (hard to get parts) Never owned a Husky but that's not saying I wouldn't. Oh, and I should have bought a new Jonsered 2149 last year, now it's discontinued.

kurtztree, is that sarcasm I'm sensing about the CS-62, or do you really dislike it? If you dislike it, can you explain why? Just curious, as I wouldn't want to recommend a saw to someone if it really isn't a good machine.

Tony The cs 62 just doesn't have the rpms that stihl has that is the reason i dont like it just my point everybody has there own likes and dislikes

Enlighten Me if you would please.....I am always looking for new knowledge!

Husky! Currently, I have a 55, 359 and a 372XP, along with a Stihl 025. I used Stihl for years and one day had a problem and was fed up. It was a sunday and I called the dealer, he was not in, so I called a Husky dealer 10 miles away and his reply is if you need a saw I am open. He has serviced me well. I also agree with the warranty issue. Husky offers a 2 year warranty on their pro saws if you check the home use box on the card. Stihl only offers a 90 day warranty on the MS 440, 460 & 660 no matter what you use it for.

I started out as a Husky guy (hence the name) but have sine converted to Jonsered. I run a Husky 55, Jonsered 670 & 920 as my main saws. I also run a Homelite Super EZ. For climbing I have a Homelite XL2 and Poulan 25. Obviously I dont climb much:D

Wonderfull Stihl Dealers

Don't include all Stihl dealers in your blanket critisism Jokers.
I'm not saying they or the saws are perfect, but around here for 30+ years, the two Stihl dealers have been a good source of professionalism, fast parts availability and generous warranty service.
I have had no undue trouble from Stihl saws.
