hi
have any of you guys out west seen jim taylor with a 084
i am just wondering because gaston was to make him one 2 years ago
wanted to hear how fast it was thats all
i know he made one for him because jim gave gaston a single buck saw for it

Yes sir, I have seen Jim Taylor running a 084 for just about that long. It usually takes first prize when it runs. The last show he ran was the ALA show in Oroville this fall. The results as I have them were: ( log was about 23", one cut, hot start)
1st Jim Taylor 4.745 sec.
2nd Jon Rupley 4.88 sec.
3rd Mike Rupley 5.44 sec.
4th Dennis Cahoon 5.705 sec.
5th John Vandussen 6.655 sec.
6th Mike Morrow 6.69 sec.
7th Bob Waddell 7.39 sec.
8th Paul Smith 7.865 sec.
9th Danny Rupley 8.47 sec.
10th Mike Forrester 10.35 sec.
11th Andy Fales 10.39 sec.
Tom Fales and Dennis Harvey had their saws quit on them so had no time.
BTW why does Gaston have to get a buck saw from Jim when he makes some of the best saws around? Mike

you are right gaston does build fast crosscuts which i have most likely his fastest one yet but his singlesaws are maybe not as fast but we know jim's are so gaston had a spare 084 so he made a trade gaston is not making much now as for crosscuts now. he has been building some very fast 250 honda's

Ben, I left my saw in the trailer, so I could run Arts' saw and chain in that hot saw competition, just a hair out of first, running no pipe and pump fuel 92 oct. Jon

what bars are you guys
running in that big wood
you must be having them made because with the gear size you would use and some kind of belly in the bar it would be big

Ed, I really don't gear my saw up much. In fact I had a 10 pin on the Mc when I cut the above time and was sorry I did it. I had a 9 on it a few weeks before and it was faster. It takes a lot of tail work on the bar when you go with the big pin drivers. Try cutting a 23" log with one of your saws and a 15 pin drive. I think it will bog down in a hurry. Mike

well i built a 084 last year that went to the stihl series
one of my friends made the top 28 guys that they wanted so he went
now he never ran a racesaw at all so we figured it out for him to just cut in and take his points and run
so it is a 084 on pump gas wide skirt piston piped
the gear on it is a 11 tooth pulling 13000 rpm's in the wood
they cut 19 inch pine which i know is not as big as 23 but that is what they were cutting cold start 3 cuts 9 .31 seconds
with me running it
he is slower by over a second never cold started before
but now we are on alcohol and in big wood we are running a 13 tooth which was quite hard to get a bar to fit a 13 tooth with some belly and be able to cut 22 inches to give him some room for his up cut in 19 or 20 inch wood
none of my saws have ever cut over 20 wood so i donot know what they would cut but then again everything here is cold start 3 cuts so that changes everything plus what kind of wood are you cutting the hardnest makes thing different
i ran a sawmill out west for 3 years so i know most of the wood out there

Hey Rupedog, Post up the 6cubic class times and show Bwalker how fast Art's world class Poulan and chain cut in that class. And by the way Jim Taylor was running a Tom Fales chain in the class he won. The facts are, you ran good but Art's chains did not win! Dennis

hey dennis
is the wood you guys out there cut hard or soft
just like to know is it something like sweet gum which i know will pull a motor down a little

Hi Ed, the wood in the West is like paper mache, one can actually karate chop it with one well placed hit.
Getting back to technical stuff, I built my first jug today, thanks for giving me the figures.
John

ehp, most of time the wood is soft but firm, not as soft as whitepine. Ed, if you don't gear up you'll never have chain speed, I know you know that one.
Hey John, nice barrel work, is that your new middle finger port model! But they don't work, I'm just warning you. Dennis

Dennis The Man

Hey Dennis,
Good to see your back on here. I don't have the time to try and defend my misunderstood brother and I don't want to nor would he want me to. I don't have a way with words like you and it is pretty entertaining to me to read all of the stuff posted on this Immature male site........ooppps I mean the Arboristsite, sorry guys but I see what I read..........lol

Who's Chain was that Dennis??????

Take Care, Leslie Fales.

Hi Leslie, that was my chain, I picked it up in Stawberry Valley, It was stoned by Ken Dunn, rivets taken down by Dennis Cahoon, doggy boned by Art Martin, cutters taken back by moi, filed by Tommy Fales and rocked out by Dennis Greffard.

Chicks Dig His Chain

Oh Hey Mr. Gypo,
Don't you ever sleep? Thats cool wonder why nobody else does that so they could win too? I think that may be a winning combination don't you?

Leslie

hi guys
i started this thread just to see what happened to the 084 that gaston made that's all
living out east here i donot hear much on shows out there which i am sure is the same for you guys on shows out here
i am just like everyone else i like to learn to so i have questions because i may not be use to some stuff that you guys are doing
thanks for the times of the show ok later

the angels are great guys at least the one's i know are
now you have a 6 cu. class as well what are the rules
pipe allowed do you have to use chainsaw parts <no reeds > if the saw did not come with it do you cut the same size of wood as with the open saw class

i wont give the name of the only hells angel i ever knew. he was purty dang good fella.. man he had a right hand
that could send a fella to dream world ..
but he wasnt the kind that would stomp people to death after he punchedum out... he quit,, when his wife got pregnant ,,and he credited his bulldog with keeping him from having to kill some fellas ,,that didnt agree with him quiting.
said he was in his pajamas with a 44 mag setting outa site when they started across the room toward him. his ole bull dog[ about 85 lbs] stepped in and backed them to the door..just before he was gonna unload the pistol. fella lives not far from here and a quieter guy u never see... dont know if he has a chainsaw..takes all kinds.

boy i would have to see that saw up close , the pipe is not the same and looks quite old so maybe it is one of gaston's old saws
but then the picture could be off a little on my computer
do you know what kind of carb is on it
