What makes a Husky 455 so bad?

Here we go again. I like to stir debate. If the HUSKY 455 weighed closer to 11.5 or 12 lbs would it be considered a decent saw for a guy cutting 8 cords of firewood a year.

The problem is the weight, or you could say the power to weight ratio + the extensive use of plastic - nothing else as far as I know......

Most of the complaining is centered around the fact that with some of this new strato charged engine technology, the 455 has taken a step backwards in the power to weight ratio, and that obviously doesn't play well on this forum. So, people are having a negative reaction to this, which is understandable. But all of the saws which are coming out with this newer engine design are paying a bit of a weight penalty.

Performance wise it is fine for it's intended customer, which is the personal firewood cutter. There have been no reliability issues at all with the ones we have sold.

When it catches on, it's big brother, the 460, will get some more favorable reviews on this site. The power of the 460 is more in line with what most of us would expect from a saw of that physical size. But both models offer pretty good bang for the buck.

It is kind of pointless to compare it to pro saws like the 359/357, just so you can say it doesn't measure up. Those saws are targeted at different customers.

I have a 575 with the same strato charged engine technology it to is heavier than the 372 but like it or not all saw will have to become strato charged engines due to goverment regs.

The 455 just happens to have a new engine style, and engine style which will become the standard in all saws. It is just like the first car with a cat, no one liked them but within a few years all cars had cats and now you still have people removing them but for the most part people accept them as part of the car. The same thing will happen with saw either they will become strato charged engines or will have cats in the muffler either way you will add weight and decrease the power, advantages of strato charged engine technology less wasted fuel and a more tourque from the engine, however you can just remove the cat from most saws (which is why the government wants strato charged engine technology instead because it is harder to disable if not impossible.

The 455 has proven bullet proof, I will give it that! I am curious of the 460, prolly will never own one, but would like to run one someday.
As far as the tourqe of the 455 over the 350, maybe, maybe not. I've run both, the 455 with the 20" bar losses whatever edge it may habe had on the 350. Myself, I will take the lightest saw that will do the job. If the 350 wont do it for me, I need an 044/373/570 class saw, period!
I am not trying to compare homeowner to pro saws here, which is why I won't respond to the 357/359 comments. I have been very pleased with my 350 and would buy another one in a heartbeat! I know others that like the 455, thats fine. I will leave the two pounds at home and bring along something more usefull, like another 350:clap:

roger that redneck!

I bought my 350 after running a 455 and a 350 one after another in wood, and wasn't impressed with the 455 over the 350.

The 455 was a good saw, and did everything that it should have, but the extra coin and more weight just to have 2 more inches of bar didn't make sense to me. BUT, my buddy that owns the 455 likes it and it serves him very well. He could care less about the weight, and occasionally runs a 24 on it to get through some bigger stuff(it's his only saw)

Well, it is all about the users expectations..........:taped: :taped:

Personally, I have a 24" bar for the 372xpg, for occational use......:greenchainsaw:

The the biggest selling feature for the 455 here is that it comes with 3/8 chain over our 350's with .325. For the guy who wants a semi pro firewood saw with 3/8 chain it is a good fit.

Now thats not very nice Gary!! We get citified for pushing pro saws, now we get criticized for talking about which one is better? Jeez.......... tough crowd!!

The 455's have done real good. They've been on the market for about 2 years or so now and the only real problem we've seen is the handle. We sold two handles this week for them. I would agree that they get a little mistreatment but also so do other saws we sell but we don't have any issues with their handles. All in all a good performer as well as it's bigger brother the 460. If I were going to buy one I'd buy the 460 because of the power, still with a 20" bar they are under $390.00.

My, you all have short memories.

The 455 is a FINE milling saw!!! :ices_rofl: :ices_rofl:  :deadhorse:

Just use the search and learn all about it.

No need to search. I posted the link to that thread on the first page.:D

Sorry Andy... but SEARCH is our friend...

But Gary, I am always told that function does not work with this website, so I do not recomend that anymore. I use the search function and post the links to that thread, or try and be helpful:jester: :buttkick:

I used to do that but... it got old real fast using the search for people and finding the info for them.:bang:

I ain't tryin' to be a jerk... just stating the fact that if we wait long enough, another 455/5100/372/361/044/660/Wildthing thread will start up by next week. All askin' the same things as before.

They guy starting this thread even started it with... "Here we go again..." So that tells me he did no search, and then asked about a half a pound weight difference... that is why I gave the thread the ol' :deadhorse: :sucks:
