Hello all!
New to the forum here. I've read countless articles here, but have never posted. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on a great middle weight/felling saw. I'm deciding between either an 044, 046, 064, or 066. Currently my main line up consists of an ms250 for the smaller stuff, and an 056 Mag II for the really big stuff (I know some will probably be upset I use a saw like that regularly, but I absolutely love the 056 models).

Either way, the 250 is clearly too small for any substantial job, and the 056 is getting way too heavy for all day use. So between the 044/046/064/066, what do you guys reccomend? Are the weight differences huge between the 40s and 60s? I hear the 046/064 are real close in weight.Big power differences? Basically I can't determine if the added weight of the 60 saws are worth it in power, or considering I my couple 056's I use, should I stick to the 40s? If so, then what between the 044/046? If 044 how much of a headache is the 10mm vs 12mm or should I even worry? What about parts in general for any? I part hunt enough for my 056's, and don't quite want the same headache.

Sorry I know it's a bigger first post, but any input would be greatly appreciated from anyone who has used any of these saws!

I'd say 28" bar, go 40's, 36" bar go 60's. The early 064's weigh like a 046, the may be a thousand rpm or so slower, but have more torque for the longer bars over a 046. The 066 is heavy and best with 32" or longer bars.

If it has to be a Stihl, then I agree with the 462. I'm a Husqvarna guy, but I would be proud to own a 261 or 462.

I'm generally a Husky guy too but had a MS461 in the shop that I rebuilt and I really liked the old school design, like the 660, and the power it put out and it has a carb you can adjust which sounds to me like your looking for old school kinda saw by your lineup, if you go to the orange side, a 372xp would do you fine most likely.

I have an all original MS660 that I don’t use anymore. I’ll sell it to you for a good price.

I appreciate all the replies to fast! So it seems there's a lot of recommendation for the 40 series. That's what made the most sense to me, since they probably won't see much past a 20" bar most of the time.

I have a cousin who uses a 441 and 461 a lot and praises them. I'm a nostalgia freak though, so I'll probably stick to either an 044 or 046.

Between those two, any good recommendations? If I go 044 is the 10mm be 12mm wrist pin something really worth worrying about? Or if I go 046, is the little bit more weight worth the little extra power? Or just grab whichever of the two I find a good deal on?

Same place as the 27.9 trillion dollars came from. Just enjoy it while it lasts.

I appreciate the offer! But I'm a bit of a nostalgia freak so I'll probably stick to the 0 series
There is nothing wrong with being nostalgic!
I have 3 056's that have mostly been on the shelf since I turned about 60...., when I switched to 046's as my "go to" big saw - with a 28" light bar for most jobs. At age 72, I decided that the light weight of the 462 was worthwhile..... power to weight ratio makes a big difference - especially for "old folks"!!

im a husky guy and have ran a pike of different saws and own an 046 and an044 i also have a the 75 cc version of 372. i like what someone else said. get a 462 and you will use it for everything it will run a 20 and 32 with no problem. i ran one last summer side by side with my 372 both had 32s on them and the 462 was much lighter
