How about a 57 cc with 4.4 hp? Already out there. But it's not a stihl, Can you name it?

YUP - 357XP

Just own a 5100S Dolmar, a 372XP Husky, and a MS660/066 Stihl and be a happy camper. Or, keep your chain sharp and don't worry about which saw has .1 hp more, or 10 grams less weight, or 500 more no-load RPM.

As an upgrade for the feminized 650, Stihl will introduce the 666, and Stihl fans will become devil worshipers resulting directly from Stihl's endorsement of the number.

So... What you are saying is that Stihl fans will all cluster around the altar... fighting with each other to make a slice with a 666 into the last Husky on planet... ????

I believe they tried to fill that gap, and even tried to replace the 260 with the 270/280 series.
Even though these saws have magnesium cases and white rear handles, they are not constructed like traditional pro saws, and have not been accsepted as pro saws by the market. They also are a bit on the heavy side.....

The 280 is 54 cc, 3.8 hp here - less hp in the US.
The replacement theory of 240/260 by 270/280 I heard too.
Now 270/280 will replace rather 290, may be even 310, if to look stihls www

The 290 and 310 hasn't been sold here, the 270 is already gone.....:D

The 280 and 390 has been offered dirt cheap this year, so I just wonder......

None of them meet the EPA or new EU emission specs... The writing is on the wall... they all change... and most saws in all brands... buy your favorites now, and store them!

Actually, I'm pretty siked. The next saw I purchase is going to be a Dolmar. Probably a 7300. I'm really interested to see how they go. I've heard they are the best of both worlds. The speed of a husky and the torque of a stihl. Who could ask for anything more eh? I'm always up for trying new things so what the he(double hockey sticks) eh?

Every time I get the chance to saw with a Husky 357XP I enjoy it. The power and the pro feel it gives are as close to the 266 as you can find. I hate to say, but to me it feels faster than though older saws. It seems to be a perkier engine and not as restricted. I think the improvements in the electronic ignition are what gives it that extra bang. If you have tried a new 357XP, I'd like to hear your comments.
As for new products, I feel that you will see most of the manufacturers coming with more strato-charged saws in the pro field. They have to get the pro saws first as they need credits so they can build lesser expensive saws for the consumer market. With that said the new things with Husqvarna buying RedMax and being able to use more of the technology like RedMax has put into the world's first strato-charged chainsaw the GZ4000. This saw has power and it has good engine running chacteristics. This will give Husky new direction into a lower cost homeowner saw. Husqvarna has new models to be released next year but it's too early for specs. Three blowers made with the Komatsu engine and a new Komatsu hedgetrimmer.
During a recent President to President meeting Husqvarna opened up some of their plans to their top dealers by a telephone conference-online video and they ( President Anderson of Husqvarna Sweden and President Dave Zerfoss of Husqvarna US ) unveiled their plans of the market share. They clearly showed their position and market share and they are clearly the largest chainsaw manufacturer in the world. They are not finished buying companies. It is part of their future (yearly) growth. They showed the strength of the company with a healthily profit which every company needs to exceed. Just hang tight and you'll see Husqvarna introduce as many new products this coming year as most manufacturers even offer in their entire product line. Tony

They can sell them in Africa, Russia, some parts of Asia...

Everyone has to change their saws in the USA.. Some will just slap on cat mufflers (smaller saws), others will be new designs.

Which will drop their prices and profit, and gave the same result.
To save operators health is not bad anyway ;-)

Yeaaaaaa

You gotta be one of the most negative sob's I've ever seen in my life, lmfao. How can you say that of the 650? I think there's laws against sacriligious words such as those in some states, lol. You nut...:biggrinbounce2:

No wonder really - As far as I know, both the 266 and 357 is rated at 3.2 kW/4.4 hp, but the 357 revs higher.

From what I can see on the annual reports, Husky and Stihl have about the same investments for R&D. Husky however is a bigger company than Stihl.
11 000 vs. 8800 emplyoees. The operating margin of Husky is also very good, 11%. Time will tell, I think the distribution networks will be very important where Stihl and Husky have different strategies. Stihl who only sells through special dealers and Husky who doesn't.

Amen ... it may be a very long time before any of them truly get better than what is now (or in most cases "was") available. There is no tech in the near future that will allow the eco-saws to be better than the old ones, except for lower emissions. The saw industry will proclaim otherwise because they have no choice if they want sales to thrive. The truth is that saws are now going through a stage where the engineers' priorities concerning power, weight, and reliability are taking a backseat to the EPA's goal of cleaner emissions.

Not sure I totally agree. The bean counters are the ones keeping engineers from building what they want. After all, would you buy a $3000 saw, regardless of how good it was?

The EPA forced the outboard motor industry to make some great improvements, and some of those changes will end up in OPE eventually. I don't know how long you'll have to wait to get a fuel-injected, computer-controlled chainsaw, but you'll get one eventually.
