I'm thinking about picking up one of these as a for-fun saw, and hoping to find a good, clean one or maybe a restored one. Not concerned about red or blue, but I do want an auto oiler. What should I expect to pay for such a machine in good or excellent condition? Anything in particular to look out for on these machines, beyond the usual sort of stuff one looks at on saws?

Id say somewhere between $40-70 for a used good condition saw, and anywhere up to $125 for a minty fresh one.

These prices reflect the fact that you would be paying $20 shipping on top of the purchase price, if its local you could spend more and do allright.

I have SXL in excellent condition traded because of NO SPARK. Correction... Just checked and it has spark and started right up after 10 or so pulls. May lose spark when it gets HOT has 16" powermatch bar and 2 extra chains. The stud that holds the Air Filter knob is loose. Interested??

They are such a pain to ship. Our local purolater wants nothing to do with anything that had oil or fuel in it, they wanted to declare the last one a dangerous goods item!!!! I had to beg to get them to ship it!!! I just picked up two 1629? skilsaw chainsaws for free, probably end up tossing them too!!!
Come for a visit bring coors= free homelite!!

Coors? You don't think much of old Homies then...nasty stuff.

You know how they identify tourists in Colorado? They are the ones drinking Coors. Locals tend not to touch it. Lived in Denver for a couple of years and was initially amazed by this tidbit of knowledge. I ordered one when they came out with some kind of special one 20 years ago. The bartender asked me if I was from out of town. I asked him if the new stuff (Gold?) had any flavor, he replied "no", and asked me if I wanted something else. I ordered something else.

LOL Bring any brand then!!!! Some of our beers have gone the same way!!
My XL1 has been with me a long time, I won't part with it!!! The other I just don't have time for, great saws in their day.

Bob, Ill take as many as you can get me!
Thanks.

Since I am relatively close to you, I have a XL-12 and a smaller top handle Homelite you can have.

I was planning to revamp them myself, but I have not had the time or spunk.

Let me know if you will be down in the Wilmington, DE area, and you can pick 'em up.
