The 1990 266xp I’ve had on the bench lives now, still some things on her ol to do list, couple parts I’ve recently picked up on vacation to add when I get home and a little tinkering with final tuning but other than that seems to be a deadly saw from the few test cookies i made with the new 16” bar on her🤘🏼

Thing is near mint, just a little dirty. Fired it up on a few pulls...idle way too high...3' spinning chain and no brake 🤯.
Dialed that down from 3200 to 2k, adjusted low idle screw down. Hit trigger and boggs down. Played with carb settings for a bit. Check fuel filter...grab the line with my hook, and...the fuel line collapsed...answered that question :p
Sorry, crappy vid...

Initially went to pick up a 257 and when looked in the shed, there were piles of saws stacked up. The lady‘s husband had recently passed away and he ran a small 2-stroke repair shop out of the shed. She didn’t know anything about the saws so I took an hour going through everything and explaining what they could be worth. Ended up buying the lot for a fair price. She was thrilled and I had a truck load off saws and parts. Along with the saws came boxes of new and used parts including around 40 new carb kits and an old generator. IMG_3231.jpeg

I’ve had a quick look at most of the saws. 1/2 the Stihl‘s will need new pistons or will become donor saws but most of the Husky’s look clean and more than 1/2 fired up. Yes, that’s a 65 mixed in there - parts saw.

I typically buy saws during the summer and spend the winter puttering away. Looks like a busy winter. Aside from this lot, picked up another 15 saws this summer including my first 234.IMG_3062.jpeg

Took my saws out to play last week and my 036 pro was leaking gas from the carb area. Seemed a little sluggish too. So it's now a bench project. Gonna go through and replace the original rubber bits and seals. Carb kit and rings will be done too. Found the lower ring was a little out of round during disassembly... mid-20230910_170003.jpgas well clean up the ports and transfers while I'm in there.

Finally some real work..... Been thrashing on my aunt's Chrysler minivan for a minute or two. And stihl not done!

My plant managers 2007 Husky 460 with the 24" bar variety. Only things he has ever done to it is 2 air filters, 1 plug and numerous 8ten chains. She was a filthy mess as usual. OEM bar, fuel system parts and spur drum. Customer states she feels sluggish and a bit weak. Keep in mind he only uses this on bigger wood as he has 2 Stihls also with smaller bars. He states maybe 2-3 times a year it is needed. Low hrs but poor maintenance.

Piston looks great thru exh. port and I ran my borescope down plug hole to look around. We good. If it passes pressure and vacuum test, then getting complete fuel system replacement with OE carb kit. Fuel supply hose has a bit of a kink in it at the carb nipple that may be the root cause but the purge return was broke at the tank grommet also.

Also new bar, chain, spur drum, oil drive pinion and bar oil supply hose.

Some parts came today so was able to finish a husky 141...trigger spring, rebuild chain brake, fuel cap, bar/chain, muff mod. Who knew a homelite would fit a small Husky? :p

Rebuild the 070 carb and reinstalled.
Can get these 2 out of the shop now.

Rebuilt chain brake for 288 project saw.

Anyone want a 051 parts saw? :p

My new to me saws from my FIL run great and I cut some with them Thursday. He has had at one time over 50 saws, most pro Stihls. He has dementia and is giving some and selling some.

My wife came home two weeks ago with 3 saws that he sent me. A MS241C, MS261C and a MS362C. These are my first Mtronic saws, so far I’m sold.

I am cleaning them up, greasing the bearings and sharpening chains. I’m looking to see what needs attention. The MS241C is pretty nice. The only slightly worn part is the sprocket so a new drum is coming.

The MS261C has more use and the bar is pretty worn. It’s a 20” with .325/.063 chain. I am not sure if I should stay with that or put an 18” on it. The little extra reach is nice and it seems to run the bar well. Decisions decisions….

The MS362C is still in process. It has a 24” bar on it, quite fortunately I already a couple of chains that are the correct length. Filter is nasty but this system is by far the best in these size saws (all these new additions run the same one). Still assessing it. The recoil rope is too short 🙄. The badge on the recoil cover is missing. It just needs some love but like the other 2 runs and cuts well.

So that’s whats on the bench today.
