I wonder if those will fit my stihl helmet. I'm not satisfied with the noise reduction of the stock muffs. My old Husky helmet wasn't any better.

If it bothers you, put those litle foam airplugs in as well. Check out pilots - even with David Clark 80's or whatever, most also wear plugs.

I just saw some 10k´s on net while browsing... looked like 10a/b just with the normal peltor style snap-on thing... should fit on peltor helmets...

Cool. That is what it looked like to me too from the pics. If I can find someone who sells the peltor helmet locally I will take in some of my muffs to check it out in person. THanks.

I have a set of plugs that were made from a mold of my ear canal.. kinda custom, but good foamies work better. I just would like the convenience of a good pair of muffs that I don't have to use plugs with. I find plugs a bit uncomfortable, and a hassle to deal with when my hands are filthy.

Good thread, how much $$ are you guys spending on these caps (with shield and ear protection). I need to get something, guess you get what you pay for?

I like the Stihl Euro Style helmet but they recently pulled them form the market.

Those MSA hats look real nice! I like the ones without the full brim so you can still wear muffs with it.

I might just have to grab one. They heavy?

I second the Stihl Euro Style Helmet. Although my Dad's neighbor is one of the local STIHL rep's, He siad they pulled it from production because of the ear muff tabs breaking. I did not know mine were breaking until I just looked at it.. Oh well I still like it just the same..

That's where my Husky helmet broke. Had to replace it a few weeks ago.

Do any of the site sponsors sell the H10 series replacement helmet muffs? Bailey's only lists the lower level ones.

My favorite helmet is no Helmet.:deadhorse: Of course the helmets hanging in the tool shop don't agree.:monkey:

Yup you sure did, whats wrong with the logging style hardhat with the mesh facescreen and muffs? You know, the type almost every tree guy in B.C. wears? Ain't no need for that fancy pants rock climbing stuff, fuggedaboutit.

i^ 'm still digging thru grandmas storage area for my grandpas ol tin hardhat!

In case it is of interest to anyone, I received a Peltor lumberjack helmet tonight and switched out the muffs with a Peltor 10 series (regular earmuff style). I wanted to try that because the Peltor 10 series muffs are by far the quietest muffs I've every used period.

First impressions with the switch is that it is going to work out fine and be even quieter than my Elvex Pro which claimed NRR 27 although I don't quite believe it.

I'll put it to the test tomorrow finishing off blocking out a 36 dbh madrone I started this afternoon. A friend called me from the site telling me it was too big for him but access was good. Turns out it was on a sandy slope that about killed us wrestling the rounds down to where we could cut them up. (We could hardly even stand up.) I told him that I was going to buy him a beach ball and when he called me up and told me a site was good, I would ask him if it passed the beach ball test. If you set the beach ball on the ground and it immediately runs quickly down the hill, it is too steep to wrestle big wood. He laughed, but I am serious. I know what he is getting for a late Christmas present.

Another reason why I wanted to run the higher rated Peltors on a helmet is that I already buy replacement guts for the muffs. New inside and foam seal makes them like new for relative cheap. Often on any muff replacing the foam makes one realize how worn they were.

So I took a pair of the first attached pic and popped in on the second.

Great to hear it worked out well...

I am myself still using the thin muffs that came with peltors helmet when bought and they seem to be fine IMO. Can hear the saw and noices throught them yet the noise aint uncomfortably loud...

ANother thing I like about the 10 series muffs is that the foam is a little thicker and they are a little more comfortable to wear for long periods, especially with glasses.

Blis, if you were local, I would send you the new ear covers I pulled off when I swapped them. I will never use them and all that bright orange color is being wasted.

love the Skull buckets, but where does the hearing pro go?

I like the idea of the full brim, but have the same issue as srt-tech.

To some degree I guess it is whatever you are used to. I am very used to a facescreen and pop up muffs.

And now maybe with the Peltor LJ I might get used to not getting rain down my back if I can remember to put on the rear shield.
