When Splitting Partially Punky Wood

Usually I have a log that's punky on the outside I will use the splitter to trim that off, so to speak. I burn that and sell the good looking wood to customers. I love a good cherry log about 16-20 inches across. Trim off some for me and lots for $$$. It's a double win, the way I see it.
 
I don't want wood rot as a rule! don't like my chains going thru it. but it invariably is part of the reason some of the limbs I gather to cut into firewood fell in the first place. I do like to burn it in Brutus my outdoor fireplace.... usually a bit wet and smokes great! :sweet:
