Any rule of thumb on what saws are worth a new jug etc.?

Like, wouldn't rebuiild anything under $300, never spend more than 1/2 the price of new on repairs etc.

For one example, i just got a call that an 020 of mine needs ~$250 cylinder, piston etc. i already have a parts 020 with similar problems.

Also, are the brake bands for midrange saws (~36-46) the same?

As you said, I wouldnt put more than 1/2 of what a new one would cost into a used saw.

Sometimes you can find jugs and pistons cheaper ($100 or so) on eBay, and if so its usually a good idea to repower.

Just remember on old saws you still have old crank seals, carb seals, crank and rod bearings, etc. You have to factor that stuff in.

Hey Treespider, you hit it on the head close to half price of new is my limit on saws. I like to buy bigger saws because in my opinion there value is greater, since parts are similar in price even for small saws. I purchased a piston kit for a Husky 262 the other day it was about $100. the same kit for a 066 was $110. the resale of the 066 should make more money if your in it for profit. Most saws I have gotton from e-bay or auctions need the repower plus, impulse hoses, drawlines, filters, carb kits, screws, bars and chain. you can wrap up a hunk of money to resell or keep a good saw. I list out what is required for each saw and price parts prior to make the final decision. Good Luck The Hoosier
