I'm looking to find Ed Gillman's "An Illustrated Guide to Pruning" and A. Shigo's "A New Tree Biology", preferably used, but everywhere I look on the 'net they want an arm and a leg for them. Anyone got copies they want to sell or suggestions on cheap sources? I read somewhere on here that someone had found a copy of Ed's book for 10 bucks.

Re:Good Priced Tree Books

I always try Amazon.com first. It is there that I usually make my book purchases and they offer used and new prices. However, my local bookstore I try to support as well, (a small business and I try to buy locally if possible), so if you have one of those in town you may want to check'em out.

http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-G...=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266456293&sr=8-4

My next stop is then Ebay of Half Priced Books.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Dont make me angry!!!

This is one of those reasons I dont join any of these " arbor clubs" . ED s book, I bought when I was 17, for like 15 bucks at Borders. Buy it through the ISA, and its 30, and that was almost 15 years ago. Every year the ISA sends me a pamphelet on how I can save "SO MUCH $$$" . Ive priced every book they offer at Borders and it seems that they think that tree guys must be idiots. Its one of the main reasons I wont sign with them. Its an insult to all of us. They should be ashamed of themselves. Any thing they offer can be purchased at borders for around 40% less, no FARTIN around, and I mean stronger words than that. Do your homework and save ,,....

The local library... I've had "Tree Maintenance" for nearly a year for free. I've read all the books I can find, the mundane go back, the interesting and informative get serialy checked out.

I live in a very small town with only a couple of used book stores and they're pretty much full of murder/romance stuff. The local library doesnt have either volume (though they might could order/borrow them from another library, theres a thought), but I really want to own these books, not borrow them. If I checked one out and didnt return it I would never hear the end of it. They send you a letter every week if you have something overdue. Anyway I thought the internet would be the place to find a deal but of the sites I've checked $50 has been the cheapest for a used copy of Ed's book. That just seems too much for a used book.

I haven't found the ones you're looking for, but I found the Climber's Companion as a bit torrent on the web and downloaded it for free.

Usually bit torrents for these types of things start showing up on the 4th page of a google search.

Amazon is a pretty good hunting ground for books.

Although, if a book is out of print, the prices people post on Amazon can get pretty extreme.

Just saw what normally should be a $40 book going for $200 and even more.
