I have this air filter that is a wire mesh type. I'm not too impressed with it, but then again my 045 has run for years with a similar filter. Seems to me that being able to see clearly through a filter is bad. Is the HD filter the best to run?

Thanks, Chris B.

Stihl recommends using the wire screen filter only for cold conditions that may cause water vapor to freeze on the filter. Warmer conditions should use the flock or paper filters. The screen type will allow a considerable amount of smaller debris particles to enter and should only be used to minimize filter freeze up.

Chris if it will fit try the HD filter. I think the increased surface area will flow more air. I have had no filtration problems with them yet. If you have the flat kind of filter you may need to change the filter base? not sure. The maxflow filters also work pretty well. However I my experience they need to be cleaned at the end of every day. I didn't see any drastic power gains by switching to the max flow either. hope this helps. Lucky

Thanks for the replies. I'm not talking about the flat filter, though I have one of those setups also. Looks just like the HD filter, but it's green and has a fine wire mesh as the filter surface. I have an HD filter that I need to replace, and I came across this green one. Guess it goes to the parts boxes.

Thanks, Chris B.
