I got my stihl farm boss with the idiot proof chain. It cuts pretty good right now but was wondering how much better a chisel, pro chain would cut?? I might just have to pick up one if i will get a worthwhile improvement. So what should i do, Use the saftey chain till i wear it out? Or go ahead and get a pro chain and change it???

LAter guys!! snapper

Whether you should use "pro" chain or not depends on how much experience you have with a chainsaw.

With both properly sharpened and depth gauges set correctly the difference is approximately 10% in favor of pro chain. Noticible. Significant (to a pro). NOT a huge difference. When the chain is nearly used up it seems that guard link chain lags a bit more behind pro.

I've seen more like a solid 15% rather than 10%.  Still, not a night and day difference though.  The biggest difference comes when boring or cutting wood wider than the bar is long.  That safety chain is then about as productive as having one of those nose protectors like Homelite used to use and Echo still does.
