Seeing as we are talking about chaps, I put suspenders on mine and don't bother with the waist latch. Seems more comfortable that way, plus easier to wear my holster.

I have the 9 Layer orange Stihl ones and absolutely love them. They are comofrotable a little hot in the summer but still I can stand to wear them all day. I have also tried them out twice with the 385xp and stopped it the saw both times just went right back to work. They also wash really well most dirt is gone when they imerge from the washer. They are also easy to mend if you do cut them. Do laugh but I just throw them in the sewing machine and hit them with a little black thread a zig zag stich and they are as good as new. Just my opinion, we had husky chapps at work and we threw them away they don't last for day to day use and don't make it throught the wash. I can't speak for Labonville ones will have try them one good time.

Ummm....if you cut your chaps and the 'strings' came out, you're supposed to ditch 'em. If you sew right through the outer layer and inner protective layer you actually reduce the effectiveness. They rely on the entire length of the protective nylon or kevlar or engtex (or whatever) to be ripped out and jam the clutch. When you get chaps new the label or packaging will say NOT to stitch right through all the layers, you can repair the outer layer as long as it it still separated from the inner.
Nuf said...glad they have protected you!!!!

Good call. I assume you mean pistol holster. I don't go out in the woods where I saw without it anymore. Mine gets in the way, too. Taurus .44mag 4"bbl.

You guys that wear the pants as opposed to chaps: Why do you like them more? I see many have both, when do you prefer one over the other? I was going to get pants and then realized that many don't offer any more protection areas than the wrap around chaps do (or at least on the one's I've seen). Anyone had any 'experience' with the difference in 6 layer and 9 layer? -Thanks!

I personally like chaps better.Easy to take them off when I'm finished sawing and ready to start splitting wood.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking. I'm not cutting all day, so being able to take off and put back on easily has its advantages. I was looking at the pants only because I thought they'd save my butt (literally) if needed.

I use pants becouse they dont even sell chaps here, not that anyone would use them if they were on sale anyway... Thats mainly becouse pants are warm and offer alot bigger proctected area, ofcourse, theyre pain in the butt on summer but in summer i only wear undies and safety pants on top of em when sawing so no problem... In the winter they are nice a warm and youl only need long undies and pants under them to stay warm dry...

And about the protection, the pants i use, have protection all-around the legs, up to half way over my tummy and to the lowerback on behind (yes, balls are protected too)....
