I love these type of postings. It shows one thing and thats there are many GOOD solutions. Brand loyalty happens because there are good brands. Stihl vs. Husky? Can't go wrong either way.
I was faced with the same question but was luck enough to be able to run quite a variety of saws in an actual work environment before investing my dollars. After running husky 357's, 257's, 272's, aloong with a couple of Stihl's I went the boards for advice...and after all that I gambled. Bought a Husky 365 something NO one advised for.
Turned out to be a very good move for me. The 357 is a great saw and so is the 372. The 365 is better for me. It has more punch at low and part throttle conditions than the 357 by far. It doesn't beat me to death like the 372..I can run it all day (and do once a week or so along with my vintage saws). The husky's fit me ever so slightly better than the stihl's. Don't know why. Could be as simple as the color..just I felt more comfortable after a couple of hours on the husky's than a stihl. My bet is there are those who would say exactly the opposite.
Parts? I work for a municipality and they have several Husky's of all ages. Parts are absolutley no problem. Most are on the shelf at the local dealer..and the oddball parts are usually at the Syracuse area dealer. Never had to wait more than a couple of days. These saw get abused. If parts were even a hint of a problem they would be ditched for another brand. Many of my freinds and neigbors are in the logging business & therefore the local dealer carries Stihl, Husky and Echo. NONE of these folks have ever complained about parts from any of these three brands and I asked. My best freind has a couple of Stihls. One is an older 044. He fixes saws for other guys as long as its a Stihl....never had parts as an issue. Bottom line? Forget the part myth for the major brands.
Bottom line is there are many options that will work fine for you. Having a good dealer near by has to figure into the equation. Those prices posted are as good as any I have seen...now I have to get off line, drive up into the back 240 and cut with my Husky 365 and my Homelite Super XL die cast boat anchor that works great in the brush so I can put the Husky to work on real trees.
