point and click 346xp

yeah, for the guy who has NO interest in leaning on their saw whatsoever...

If you own a few of the 346xpg's, and I do, you know how fast and easy they work. Point it at the limb to be removed, click/blip the trigger to get WOT and point it at the wood and done. That fast. No need to lean into it, a different style of cutting/limbing. There are those that still like to lean on a saw. So pick the right saw to fit your style of cutting, be it a light touch or heavy lean. Learn to be one with the saws and let the saw do the work.

indeed.

right tool for the job is only part of it. can't forget about making sure you have the right tool for the user, too.

I am surprised the dealer didn't try to tune the saw a bit, at least put a tach on it to make sure. Also, if there is another Stihl dealer within a reasonable distance it may not be a bad idea to stop by. The same saw tuned by someone else may take care of things. Make sure to only push the saw until it "cleans out" as I like to call it. At full throttle out of a cut the engine will burble but when fully loaded it will sound clean and smooth. Don't go too much beyond that clean sounding point.

+1 on doing your research before going to the dealer again and try a few different brands. Buying a new saw should be fun, you get to test drive toys.

Well I have not had trouble out of 372xp except for the one I
bought off ebay and it just needed carb kit and line. I used a buddy's
044 the other day and it was ok as well. I want a 3120xp but honestly
more for ego than anything as I will use it but not everyday that is
for the 372 and 338

Jeff,

I bought a 361 after coming here for advice. At first it seemed like too much saw, but being the computer geek I am, I amortized the cost differential over a few years, and it amounted to only a couple dollars a month.

I've only had two problems with that saw:
1. The tank vent was leaking fuel right after I bought it -- turned out to be overly "fizzy" fuel that the dealer put in it. The pressure built up in the tank and fored fuel out the vent. Been running Amoco (BP) Ultimate in it and it hasn't leaked a drop since.
2. I like it so much, I rarely pick up the ms250 for doing my limbing. Very little vibration, nice balance, and lots of power and speed in the cut makes it hard to use anything else.

And ... like Peacock said:
You'll love the 361. Just remember that it'll feel like a different saw after 5 gal. or so through it. Just remember that it'll get quite a bit stronger.

I've ran about a dozen tanks of fuel through my 361 since I bought it in the winter. It's so much more powerful than when it was new. I realize it's like preaching to the choir, but it's one amazing saw and worth every penny.

Also, for what it's worth, get some protective gear if you don't have it. What you'll spend on chaps, helmet/face screen, and steel toe boots is a fraction of an ER visit. I won't cut anything anymore unless I've got my gear on -- I may look a little goofy, but I'd look goofier with my head cut wide open.

Let us know how it goes.
