but that ISA sticker doesn't mean squat when it comes to removing some big dead scary tree.

Correct you are. And frankly you do not need to know much about arboriculture in general for removing a big dead scary tree. Dangerous removals of dead trees is a science in itself, and is more about safety, equipment usage, rigging, tree dynamics, etc..

Here in Iowa, I get asked if I'm a Certified Abortionist!
Yes, really I do.
I tell them "no, but there are some guys around that would fit under that desription better than Arborist!"
I correct them, and then they are embarrassed when they realize what they said!

just wondering how many of you wear your ISA jacket when you show up to a job site. alot of guys here dont. too bad for them because i get a ton of work just wearing it out. haha

What seems to work best for me is wearing my mind.

When an arborist can quickly ascertain what's going on and convey the tree needs in simple accurate vocabulary, most folks can recognize the ability.

It would seem that the patchwork can make a difference in some neighborhoods.

But the basics can really impress people. Things as simple as pointing out the hidden sunburn on the west side from previous summer excess pruning to clear limbs from the gutters.

Or suggesting vine maple for child play areas, rather than Japanese maple, since one is flexible and the other is brittle.

Once the homeowner's small ecosystem is broken-down into small component parts and explained, their attention will be solely on the conversation and not the clothing.

But I'm all for some kind of decent looking clothing, whether embroidered or just clean and pressed. Nothing wrong with making a good first impression.
