Why I don't own a new Dolmar saw.

Well. I don't worry about anything but my own customers. If I sell 3 times as many small saws as large ones why should I invest my money in PRO saws? I'd rather make sure i'm stocking what 90% of my customer base wants rather than making sure I have the Gee Whiz saws that only enthusiasts, loggers and fun seekers are looking for.

I love the 7900 but I sell them maybe 1 for every 20 small saws. Doesn't make sense to worry about stocking a number of them especially in the off season.

I appreciate the input but people aren't complaining about a dealer who is temporarily out of a model of saw. It's the dealer that only has 3 saws, no parts, doesn't know a thing about them and treats the customer like a total waste of time.

Nicely handled DOLMARatOs

I agree with your argument about not having stock in place when there is really no-one to buy it at that time of year. There is no doubting your knowledge of the saw/s in question which really is the problem with the dealer who knew zip about the machines. Here in Australia we have fairly good selection of saws including Dolmars but by far the most common is the Stihl and Husky at second. Mind you the last time I was at a dealer which was only last weekend, he had new pictures and signs in his shop advertising Dolmar saws. His main line though is Stihl. I personally have a Dolmar and I am happy with its performance.

Eh

Sides, if you want one the dealer can have it in a few days... Heck, they can even get it O.N. if you need it asap...:chainsaw:

I actually left my shop at 5pm last fall, drove 90 miles to my distributor and picked up a half dozen saws, trimmers, etc. for a big account. Picked em up at Will Call and made a badazz U-Turn hell bent for leather back to the shop. 3.5 hour round trip.

Had everything set up for 8am customer arrival on saturday morning. They were happy, I was happy and I have a customer that would not hesitate to buy something on my recomendation. This is my idea of customer service.

Another quick story not related to saws. One of my LCOs plows in the winter (duh), broke his plow at 7pm....BAD. Ripped it off the truck. Called me, last resort. Loaded up, fixed the plow, truck and wiring. Worked through the night while he slept. By 2am his rig was up and running, dropped it off at his house and he was back in business. I'M NOT A PLOW SHOP and he doesn't spedn a huge amount of money with us. He's now a customer for life.

Take care of your customers because they are your life. Period.

Well, this is kind of a follow up to the thread about trash talking dealers.
I was on the road today, and decided that I was going to look for a Dolmar 7900.

Number 1
The first dealer I went to was 30 miles away.
When I walked in, a KID, about 17, came over and asked me if I needed any help. I started asking about the Dolmar saws. He knew NOTHING.
He literally didn't even know what saws they had.
Turns out they only had 3 used saws in stock.
I had to explain to HIM that the 6400 weighed the same as the 7900, and he couldn't tell me if he had ever seen a 7900.
He then told me he'd get somebody who could answer my questions.
Out comes a guy, and while I don't generally believe in judging people based on appearance, Id bet my left one that he is currently on probation.
I asked him about the 7900. He literally seemed to be aggravated to have to deal with me, and he stated that they cost $X.
He then told me that the price he quoted was sans-bar.
I said, well, thats cool, I think I have an extra husky bar I can use.
He then told me that Dolmar saws are made in Germany, and are a SUBSIDIARY of STIHL. Since Stihl bars dont fit on Dolmar saws, Husky bars, being made elsewhere, don't fit either.
I asked him where he heard that and he told me the DISTRIBUTOR told him.
I then looked him dead in the eye and asked him if he ever tried to put a Husky large mount bar on a Dolmar 7900, and he admitted he had not.
I left the store.

Number 2 -

I went to a local place that carrys Dolmar saws, and they had a 5100, which seemed really nice, but again, I am after a 7900.
They quoted me a price, and it seemed like a fair deal, but being a special order, they did not want to commit to it, since they did not know if the price named included a bar/chain.
I gave them my cell number, explicitly stating that I would order it over the phone with a credit card number, once they told me the price.
I waited all day.... no call.

I am willing to spend $700 on a new saw, and I literally cannot give my money away.
Dolmar may as well sell online. Their "dealers" are a bunch of losers.

:bang:

Sounds like ya had a bad day. Can't blame you for feeling the way you do but you said one thing there that's not quite right. Quote: Their "dealers" are a bunch of losers", unquote. Those 3 guys you dealt with may well be but there is over 900 Dolmar dealers in the USA and rest assured they all aren't losers. Good and bad in everything, such is life. Ole Sugarbush is a great Dolmar dealer and apparently those cats up in NY are too. I'm sure there is a great Dolmar dealer somewhere in your area.

I'd like to think of myself as a good Dolmar dealer. We have a dealer just a few miles down the road who is one of the guys described. Only has 2 saws, really would rather sell you a Johnny-Red. But has a HUGE sign out front that Says DOLMAR PRO SERVICE CENTER and advertises in all the local papers.

Hopefully the "bad" dealers will grow up and become good dealers.

Good post Thall.

Ha, heres a good dealer for ya. Man calls the dealer and says my neighbor bought a new saw from you last week and he says your a great guy. He goes on to say he has a old 20 year old Mac that's pouring oil out the crankcase and that it won't half run and on and on. The great guy dealer tells him on the phone to pitch that dayumm thing and get a new saw. The guy goes what. The great guy dealer says you heard me, throw the thing away and get a new saw. The man goes you mean you won't work on it, the great guy dealer says you got it. He goes why not. Dealer says he's a Stihl dealer, not a Mac dealer and that parts for those old saws are hard to find. He goes ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I"LL BE SELLING HIM A NEW SAW TOMORROW,LOLOL. Sometime its best to just tell it like it is.

Thall.

This is why I bow down to you. We try to be honest and up front. If we can get parts for it we'll fix it, but if you ask me for an honest opinion I'll give it to you.

I have a nasty habit of talking people out of a new piece of equipment if all their old unit needs is regular inexpensive work. I'll be the first one to tell them when it's time to stop beating that dead horse. Come on Joe Customer, pry that old wallet out and let the moths loose.

Thanks again Thall, you're all right for a Stihl dealer. LOL

I saw no point in even looking at that old Mac because I got nothing for it at all. When he said it was pouring oil out the crankcase it was time to go into SALE mode, lololol. I mean hell if he takes that old saw somewhere and does have it worked on he's throwing good money after bad. Old saw has done its job, time for a new one and be done with it. Gotta love them old wore out saws, hehehe.

Musch,
I will call Brian in the morn. I should have a price for you by noon if you want it. I am heading down his way soon to get a 5100s. If its something that can be worked out I might even need to get up to mad town for some shopin.

I say that man likes saws, cool beans to him. There is a old retired Stihl dealer up in Washington state that has over 1400 chainsaws. He actually built a museum for all of them. He told the story of how ole Daddy Mr.Stihl himself heard about his collection and stopped in one day. Before he left he asked him was there any certain type of saw he was looking for. The guy rattled off some rare model Stihl he'd been looking for. Pappa Stihl told him when he got back to Germany he would see if he could locate him one. A year past by and one day the UPS truck shows up. The driver walked in carring a box with a note saying compliments of Mr.Stihl. In the box was that rare saw that man had been searching for. Funny how things come about if ya just ask the right person....

LOL,
Hell she goes to a auction and buys saws too. I should change that some day. We been thining the herd over the last yr. Not many as you would call parts saws/aka pieces. About a dozen or so runners at any one time, mainly alot of restorable complete turns over saws. Bar chains and the likes on them. Were down to about 50 now. SHe told me they had to go. Could not get the car in to the garage last winter. But, then again I do have a addiction for buying all sorts of junk. I just call it farm primatives and sell it. Some city folks will give a arm and a leg for old rusty items to hang on a wall. Hey take a look at the pics anyone know what it is?

Antique medical equipment.

Circumcision is my guess. Or turning bulls into steers with leverage to spare.

Sorry. That wasn't in good taste but it sure is funny.

Heck yes

Yep, those are in good shape.
A farmer down the road has a pair like those.
had to use them.
He bought two loads of stears with no horns from Tenn.
To make a long story short. Some were not stears and some had horns.
Well we cut off whats not suppose to be there and mailed them back to the seller with a note.
Saying "I told you stears with no horns".

If you just laughed at this, You might be a Red neck.
