No no no

LMFAO... Good one guys. What's with all the jet stuff the Doc was talking about??? Getting out of adjustment and all... Got me?

Basically the mechanic was saying the saw could not be modded.
But Drmiller is going to do it anyway

my dealer told me that after you turn the high speed screw so far, you run out of adjustment.
the main jet is only so big. if you do too much, you need to change the main jet.

The dealer is correct... depends on the carb, but on the later types generally yes.

That is the general consensus with mods, but mild port work won't require a jet change 90% of the time. Muffler only mod should not be a problem with the main jet by a long shot.

Have you checked that carb? It is a Zama, and may not have a replacable main jet....It may have to be drilled. I'm not saying it does not have a replacable jet because I have not had to modify that carb, but I have ran into problems with other Zama carbs without removable jets, had to redrill them. I have a spare 7900 carb kicking around. I will take it apart and check it out later this weekend.

Dolmar doesn't use Zama carburetors on the 7900. Chances are it's a Walbro from the look of the parts look up picture.

I'm fairly certain that all of the Dolmar equipment is running Walbro carburetors. Someone let me know if any of the 06 or newer equipment is running Zama.

Then I stand corrected. There are only 3 ZAMA equipped pieces of dolmar equipment in the book including Dolmar-Makita and Sachs-Dolmar. The application book is always 1 or 2 years off admittedly.

I'll re-qualify my remark. ALL the Dolmar's that I've done carburetor work to have been over 10-15 years old and NONE of them was a ZAMA.

I'll take bake my statement obviously. The newer saws are unning ZAMA carbs on some of the units. Luckily they are high-end Zamas to be sure. $100 + for the carb on the 7900.

The 6400, 7300, and 7900 all have them.

My experience with Zama carbs is they are cheap knock offs of Walbro designs.... 100 bucks sounds a little steep for a carb, especially a Zama at that.

Yes all three take the same one, and spendy at 93.00. would be interesting to figure the cost of a saw buying it by the part.

Tom you don't need a 7900. you are a Stihl dealer, not a Dolmar..lol

Sugar, I know the individual costs of parts are a lot more...I know of a few saws that were dissassembled when new and never registered....just for parts. lol.

Dolmars are simply out here, due to lack of dealers/sevice - the closest dealer is about 1000 miles away...... (yes 1000, that is...)
