I've been a climber for 21 years and started out with everything Husqvarna. I used those little Husky 35's for years but they don't make those anymore. So now I use the Stihl MS 200T up the tree and a tired Husky 272XP on the ground. I can't decide whether my next ground saw will be the Stihl 460 or a Husky 372XP as the 272 no longer exists. As far as I know, it takes longer to get Husky parts but I just bought 2 chains and a bar for the 272. I could interchange them with a new 372. Could anyone who has used either the S460 or H372XP let me know what your opinion is please?

If buying new, you are alittle late on the 372, as they are no longer made either. I own one currently and love it. The MS460 is currently made and will pull a longer bar better than a 372. If buying used both are good saws in my opinion, and both would give you good service!

I have the 046 and my dad has the 371xp. Both are excellent saws and are well liked here on the forum.
The 046/460 has a power advantage, it should, it's a larger saw. The Husky has better air filtration and a little bit better anti vibe.
I can run the 371xp all day and not feel all beat up when I'm finished. The 046 will take it's toll on me, I won't use it as a primary saw all day long.

IMHO, it all comes down to personal preference and dealer support. You won't be dissapointed with either saw.

As said by others before me, both saws have their advantages... anti-vibe and air filtration is on husky's side but 460 is bit stronger... But IMO id get 372xp while you still can since it wont be availabe much longer on the usa (due the epa bastards)....

Decisions, decisions. Don't forget to include what I think is the best choice in that class: Dolmar 7900. Out runs the S460 and H372, both in terms of HP and torque, all without weighing or costing more.

My vote is for the Dolmar 7900. It will flat out smoke the Husky and the Stihl, its cheaper, and your Husky bars will fit on it.

But if you do want a 372, Baileys has them again and they are a great saw. And I like the 046 too.

All of these saws are an excellent choice.

The 372xp is still made, just not imported into the US at a regular basis, because of EPA......

...and the Jred 2171 is mostly the same saw.:)

Stihl or Husky

Thanks alot for the quick replies. I looked into the Dolmar and called a dealer in my area. He sells Husky and Dolmar and stated that out of Stihl, Husky, and Dolmar, Dolmar would take the longest to acquire parts. I am in Ontario Canada and there isn't an extensive supply of parts for Dolmars here. I think they're more popular in the US. Anyway, the dealer said that the Dolmar 7900 was the same price as the Husky 372XP. And in Canadian, that's 850.00. Are there any of you that think I should still get the Dolmar?

The Husky has better air filtration and a little bit better anti vibe.

Ed

then why do my hands go numb after 5 minutes of running the 372 while I can run the 460 all day with no problems?

best post on the thread imo, was #6

$850 can for the 7900? look elsewhere, too high. they are $550usd here local to me. and the 372 was $650usd. more money for less saw. imo, the 372 does not live up to its hype.

I love my 372, but it can't really compete with the 046/460 and the 7900. The 372 in my eyes is a great firewood saw with a 20" bar in hardwoods. Not worth a whole lot more. It is more of a screamer, but lacks the grunt that the 272 had.

The 460/046 is a great saw, but I prefer the 7900. The 7900 weighs a tad more than the 372 when all filled up with fluids, but has more power and will pull a much longer bar with authority.

7900 and 460 would be my choice, especially since the 372 has been discontinued.

hmmmm.. I reckon you're talking stock saws....modded is a whole different ball game.

my ehp 372 is usually a tad faster than my PP 7900, (maybe not if buried in big wood) and pulls a 32 inch bar with ease in softwood, and 28 with 8 pin. Eventually, I'll have Ed or somone as good build the 6401/7900 and see. Built right, it should beat the 372. But Ed really knows how to make the 372's get up and scream.

I finally broke in your 660 today, here's Omar milling a birch log...She's all shiny!!! Thanks again, Steve!!

I'm glad I bought a MS440 instead.

I came so close to buying a 372XP, but went with Stihsl instead.

I have had a 372 for four years and holds up
to anything I have asked of it. I have a 20,24,
and a 28 in bar and pulls them all if you don't get
too carried away on the drags. I got on this site
and decided to mod the thing took off cylinder
put big bore on it modded muffler and richened
it up the mods make a difference but is addicting
before you know it ill mod all my saws lol.
