wife does fine with the owb and the insert. Her ma on the other hand....we went to fla. several yrs back and her ma wanted to stay at the house and take care of the dogs and outside animals. We heated with an insert with a blower, fuel oil boiler as back up. I tried to show her how to run it but she would have none of it. Said she could run a wood stove. Well we got home after a week and she had run through at least a months worth of oak and hickory. Seeing this I asked if she had trouble. No, but I found out yesterday if you push that handle in on top, the wood lasts longer.....

My wife tells people how she was brought up on a farm and we’re country people. I would love to know what country?
It must always be 100* there and 100% humidity and a fire is never needed. The last year I worked before I retired I worked night shift and leave the house about 8:30 pm. Tell her to not let the coals burn too low and showed her how to load the HotBlast for the night. Come home in the morning to find the biggest log in the pile in the burner by itself and it would barely be charred.

Been a wood stove slave for almost 40 years . Not many can see the level of knowledge it takes . And what you learn over the years . The goal from day one make it easy . My wife just happy she is on her feet again .

I use to work that fast . Not anymore, got some jerks that like to blind people with there bright lite in big ass hurry in the morning . Other than kids walking on the rode getting on the hell wagon my morning is great !

Wife never needed to figure out the woodstove, she had already figured out the thermostat.

It took some time but my wife is proficient with the woodstove. She can build a fire in a cold stove or tend the fire if I’m not there. She used to over clean the stove and I’d end up with an ash bucket full of coals but she relaxed with that. She didn’t grow up on wood heat.
I’m working with my 12 year old son on the fire now. He’s a bit of a wild card. I have him only building small fires because he has a bad habit of building one and walking away. He also has a problem with raking the coals forward between loads. I’ve come home to an 800 degree stove or 8” of coals several times. He’s getting there though.

Came home one day to a driveway full of fire trucks and cop cars. Must of had that look of panic on my face because the officer at the bottom of the drive ran up to me to tell me nothing serious.
The wife came home and loaded the stove right up, with the draft open all the way as should be she forgot about it till she saw the back yard full of black smoke.The neighbor called the fire department when she saw flames coming out the chimney. Wife did just what I told her if she had trouble ,close the damper grab the phone and dog and get out of the house. There was no damage and the fireman used the whole thing as a training exercise. She was afraid of the stove for a bit after that but with the new respect for it.

Dang, I must've got lucky. Not only does my wife like to run a saw and will help with limbing and bucking, but she'll also help split, haul, and stack firewood — can get a cold stove going, and knows how to maintain a fire with the catalyst operating temperature.
Yep, some of us got Lucky, my Wife isn't just my wood cutting Partner, but also my Favorite Fishing Buddy and Best Friend.
She not only enjoys wood cutting, but also Shooting, Camping, Boating and Crabbing. She knows her way around a Salmon Rod, and holds up her end of the deal with the net, when I have the Fish On.
I Think that I will keep her around for awhile

Amen, brother. My wife is my shooting partner too, she's a pistol and carries one to boot. As a CSI she's a veritable American badass, deals with all sorts of gruesome and gross stuff on a daily basis. Combine all of that with the aforementioned qualities and ability — but she'll refuse to drive a manual transmission.
She actually knows how, she just won't. Ha ha
My wife is pretty good with the wood stove, she can start a good fire, as long as there is kindling ready, a little pitch handy, she's good to go. BUT, i have come home before and there's a big chunk of wood in the stove, and no fire. But, some times she'll let it go down too low, and then grabs the wrong piece of wood. The neat thing, she's got the ''automatic stove tender'' all figured out. She's a great cook, mother, grand mother , aunt, etc, etc, i'm blessed. But, having the ''automatic stove tender'' working like it does is really her high light. All she has to do is say, ''the fires getting a little low on wood'' and the ''automatic stove tender '' goes to work. ME! yup, i get up, go outside, get a nice chunk of wood , bring it in, put it in the stove and that's that!! lol. She's a little hesitant on a big fire, she's pretty sharp and keeps a good eye on it, not letting it get too hot, or too cool. And, i'm up and down at night, so i always have the house nice and warm, and plenty of wood split and on the back patio. I make sure i split it in woman's sizes too, that's ''her wood'', ha,ha.
Its raining out right now, she stayed with the kids last night about 45 miles away, so, when she comes home today, she'll say ''its nice and warm in here, and its good to come home to a nice warm house''. That, and all the good food she cooks me, keeps my clothes clean, is more than worth all the work i do keeping ahead on the wood cutting, splitting,stacking, and putting it away. I'm getting the better end of the deal. But,yeah, she can start a good fire, keep it going and that's pretty good in my book.

Yeah my Wife CAN drive my truck when she NEEDS to, but doesn't ask for the keys, "Just for a Change", I drive a 94 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 Power Stroke with a 5 speed manual, in a pinch she can handle it, but doesn't do it by choice. She will pull a trailer behind her Expedition across 2 states, but will still hand me the keys to put the boat down the ramp, she could learn pretty easy I'm sure, but that's a "Blue Job", I've been a truck driver for over 30 years, so it's a given that backing the trailers is my job, she will "Get Em' There" and I "Put Em' Away".
She's no instructor, but has a CCW, and I don't doubt that she would use it if need be, I Hope that I never find out, but I would be surprised if she was to hesitate, at the wrong time.
