It's easy for laws to go too far and have a similar effect, by driving up cost. That and finding people in the know make things logical, not something that just sounds good on paper.
Just buy a Chinese tractor instead lol(at least you know that's what it is going into it). I used the two stage ones here for a few yrs, then got into quads with plows and found that quicker unless it was a heavy snow(8" or more), but usually when your getting a snow event like that your out there getting it taken care of during it at least a bit, stinks waking to 12" on the ground, but that doesn't happen often even here(if we were on the lakeshore it may be different).

LOL No! That's Rock Elm, about the most stubborn, stringy, hardest wood to split I have come across. Or was that a joke?[emoji51][emoji111]
The one I currently have is the next newer version(a 2012 or newer) of that one with the handle on the front, it also has the "H" on the bottom(part the round gets pushed against) when you have it vertical like that, same engine. I have another little pile to the left of the "fluffy" white oak rounds, when I finish those two piles the splitter will get listed, then I have another pile I'll start on.06 or 07 Speeco/Huskee.

Seems as though maybe you might not have read my whole posts in this thread.
My goal was in no way to offend anyone, but sometimes when the truth is spoken that happens, I did try to flavor it with grace/understanding I'm sorry if I did.
I was not angry when I spoke any of the above.
I would think that many of the guys who thought they were buying a good ole Kohler engine may be upset, but I'm not because I'm a pretty informed buyer.
So to draw people to the post who may not know is inappropriate, they get an alert and can see what was said. The truth is I've done what I can to help every person who has contacted me through PM or in the open forums as much as I can. Including all the guys who have hit me up for advice on their chippers which I thought was kinda funny in the beginning and then I figured it out
Did I say I wouldn't use, touch, or buy a Chinese made product, no I didn't, for many things there aren't many options, I have one or two Chinese carbs that are oe on good quality products. Once again did you read all my posts here?

Not understanding "there are zero snow engines to choose from", really, or zero that will fit into the price the companies/customers are willing to pay for or can afford to pay for. Will Honda not sell engines for snowblowers because they make them. I thought there were Honda Engines on quite a few splitters, I've owned at least 5 myself both GX and GC and there are others in this thread.
It's simply a choice to avoid the Chinese engine market, we as well as the manufactures have a choice it's a great thing, but if people continue to choose as they have that choice will be harder and harder to make.
I buy and sell quite a few snow blowers, mainly Hondas, but some toros, too bad the toros went to Chinese motors.
Most won't pay for a Honda snow blower, but one or two pull starts sure are nice, and the 50' throwing distance is no joke

Same engine, B&S piece of junk, starts easy year after year, if it's warm restarts with one pull, does not burn oil, just change oil once a year. Looked for country of manufacture and found nothing on it. I know, I know, piece of crap that just will not die so I can put a Honda on it. Added a wheeled jack, kept bending that one pulling it through woods.06 or 07 Speeco/Huskee.
When it stops rattling, I will order the Honda. Been a nice splitter for the price, and fast enough for one person. Cycle time seems to be speeding up the older I get.
I like this design, it's the one on the swisher units. It requires that you box(or use a bushing/spacer between the rails) the rail, but so does most of the other options like the bolt on jacks if you want them to work well.
