A neighbor friend told me he had a Stihl 041 parts saw in his garage that I could have. When I arrived to pick it up, I found sitting next to the 041 a 042 that he wanted me to have as well. The 042 was running when he stopped using it 10 or 15 years ago. It needed fuel lines, and he never got them replaced. It seems to be all there, and it has over 130 PSI compression. The clutch is in pretty good shape, but, as you can see, the saw could use a real good cleaning!

I hope to get to the 042 soon, when I get a few other projects cleared off the bench. So far, I have $0 invested. I guess that qualifies as a "You Suck"! O

I also have an 042, mine runs but I believe it needs new seals as it won't idle.

(I already removed the carb for rebuilding.)

Here are all three of my 041s:

Here's my running 041 that I purchased very reasonably from an older gentleman friend who switched from gas to battery saws. I'm the second owner:

And here's my other "parts saw" that I'm actually trying to get running:

If I can get it running, then I'll need to round up replacement muffler shroud, bar, and chain, and a few more parts that I'm sure I'm forgetting. Right now I'm waiting on a carb kit. Thanks for watching! O

Cool. I’d like to add an 041 to my collection eventually.

And now the fun begins...20240323_154950.jpg
Hope this turns a parts saw into a runner! O

Wow, I was reading about the H.D. engine oil. For colder weather if the oil is too thick and congeals on the inside of the oil tank to add a little bit of kerosene to thin it out. No oil weight numbers. It just says thick and thin for weather conditions. LOL I wonder if the guys argued about the oil they were using. Whale or mineral LMAO

Lost count of all the over 600cc street bikes I owned. Never had a H.D. Rode a few, never was drawn to own one. Lots of riding on mountain roads almost dragging knees. Apparently you had or have a Norton, so you know the fun factor. Harleys have their place, it sure isn't handling. Knuckles were my favorite because of the way the engine looked.

I owned this old saw 2 or 3 days in early 90's,Mom's husband saw me using it and wanted it,my folks moved to town 10-12 years ago and this old saw one of the things they wanted to keep,so it's been sitting in a pile of stuff way back in corner of barn, folks gone now so I decided to check out saw,I cleaned mud dauber nest out of starter, dumped tank of old gas out, checked spark, and gave squirt of fresh gas in carb and after handfull of pulls she fired and ran a few seconds, she needs new fuel line and filter, probably new sparkplug and carb cleaning, but she wants to run.

I need to look over the stuff poked way back in corner of barn,I think there's another chainsaw in the pile,2 bigger trimmers, and a decent pull behind JD log splitter.
I just never felt right rummaging through folks stuff, but now that they been gone awhile it's time to either use or get rid of so I can use that part of barn.

I got it for free in H40 parts, I bought crankshaft seals, the piston ring, the oiler drive pulley because he damaged it during disassembly and I added 3 screws / I have never seen such a worn-out ring in my life, it's a miracle it didn't fall apart / Next year it will celebrate its 30th anniversary 🤠

Ed, you are so right about the Norts being knee draggers. More than one person saw that my footpeg rubbers on my '75 850 were beveled and asked if I got hurt in the "crash". Told them it had never been down.

Oh yea, my friend had a couple of Nortons. We rode a lot together, the guy was nuts. There was no way I would ride close to him on mountain roads. My Triumph was old but it handled excellent. I didn't rub them much but it did happen. They were ridgid and didn't fold up, would of hated to see what would of happened.

This time I really punished myself….take all or nothing deal. Anyone needs NOS homelite chainsaw parts, I probably have it. Tons of Briggs and tecumseh parts too.
Would you have a magneto pickup for tecumseh motor? About 12-15 hp

It took some doing but I got this old log splitter dug out of far corner of machine shed,my mother's husband wanted to keep it when they had auction and moved to town 10-12 years ago,I'm guessing it wasnt ran year or two before that.
Does anyone know what years the John Deere model 5 was built?
I remember when he purchased the splitter, but not sure of year possibly 1978 ??
Fuel tank, and carb cleaning are a definite, oil ,and hydraulic fluid change also.

I never had a Homelite in my collection until now. Picked up this Super XL Limited Edition locally off of Facebook marketplace a couple months ago. All it needed was a carb diaphragm and a clean up. Runs perfect now. I'm not sure if it qualifies for a you suck, but I paid $101712497878624.jpeg1712497878624.jpeg
