Is this an early Stihl 050 with roller bearings???

I just decided to tear down this part of a carcass that I got with a bunch of saws, to see what could be salvaged. I figured it was an 051, but it's the first one I've seen with a Roller bearing on the clutch side, and the rollers run right on the crank!!!

Early 050??? Or were all the early 051's like this too?

My 051 has the same bearings. A roller bearing clutch side and ball bearing flywheel side. I think the early 051's had the same bearings as the 075-076 saws. I picked up a bearing off of ebay for an 076 that fit.

Ok I am bumping this thread too. I have both an 051 and 075 that I am wanting to put bearings and seals in. I do not have my crankcases apart yet to see which type bearings are in it, but I do have one set of the same exact bearing number 9503 003 0540 which says it is for the 075. Now, since I have 2 different saws and read about different bearing for clutch side vs starter side, I called my dealer to verify. He told me Both the 051 and the 075 show the one side bearing that I have in hand as 9503 003 0540 supercedes to
9503 003 0543 and the other side for the 051 is part number 950 3003 0443 and the other side for the 075 is 9503 003 0440

If anyone cares to double check me and correct me if I am wrong, please do. Thanks

Wouldn’t ya know! I need that roller bearing as well! I can’t find an ipl with that part number. My local bearing shop can’t get me a bearing with those dimensions.

Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back, and thanks for your reply. Turns out, the IPL wizards over at the beg for manuals thread found the correct IPL and I found the correct roller bearing ( 9629 003 3400). Those guys are great!

My experience is limited too. My 075 is easy, but my 051 is harder than most to do any parts ID's definitively since the serial number is unreadable.

I pulled that part number up and got the seal not the bearing. Double check that.

What model is your saw? Any chance you can post the serial number? I am racking my brain on serial for my 051.
Also, with you holding that bearing in hand, have you gotten the cases apart in order to now have it loose and able to view it?

I have not cracked the cases apart on my 2 1111 saws yet. Any special tools or tips?

YUP! you are correct! I cut and pasted the seal number (good thing this is not a permanent record). Sorry and thanks for pointing that out. I did find the bearing and bought it on Ebay (yes, I paid too much) The SKF NJ 204 does look like the correct dimensions (27 ID x 40 OD x 10 W) and I will be trying that bearing in the future (thanks Kanscruzer)!

In the long run, paying a little too much but getting a correct part and usable saw, will be small potatoes in the larger picture once that thing is ripping through wood. So, your saw is an 050 or 051?

ncrile, I am totally pulling for you to get this awesome saw going. Great to see the pics. It will help in getting mine figured out too.

Can you help me with tips on how you split the cases? I have seen non stuffer crank ones done with a tool, and others with heat and hammers etc. How do you recommend doing these 051-076 types?
