Here's a project i have been toying with for awhile.
I got the 101 Kart motor awhile back from another
AS member "Thanks Dennis" After tearing it appart
i found it had a modded crank and was ported. So
i spoke with the Mac kart guru Terry Ives and he
recommended using a stock crank for this application.
I bought one from him so i could get under way with this.
I also had the block bored. It was standard but needed to
be freshened up. Took .016 to clean it up nice.
More pic's in a minute.

At first i was going to go the same route as McBob and CPR
with the large Mac BDC carb but didn't want the aggrivation
of trying to get it to all work. Plus Terry Ives said the large
carb is great for high rpm and a smaller carb better for torque.
So i chose the Tilly HL 360, It's the largest HL carb with a 1.1/6
throttle bore. So i bought a sloper intake that fits the HL carb but
the angle was way off. So i had to scrap that idea. Tossing things
around i decided to make my own intake.

Another top project in progress Lee. That cylinder looks like it will make some serious power. I only pulled up your vid of the 101B geardrive this morning to show a colleague. That saw sounds sweet, and I am sure this one will do the same.

Looking forward to this build.

Regards,

Chris.

It took alot of work and time fitting all the pieces but the intake
is done and i'm happy. The tank in opened up and the carb clears.
I'm even able to use the manual oiler, "I think" at this point.
Some parts i had already painted for this project but will need to
paint the tank and filter cover. I like the look of chrome so i sent
the a kart fan housing and the 125 saw cylinder cover to be chromed.
They came out excellent. Everything fits "so far perfect" Just need
to make the throttle linkage. I had to mod the head a bit. Grind of a
bit of the fins to clear the cylinder cover and also weld a piece on
for the rear AV mount. I will take a pic of that later.

I've seen some porting on these before around the upper three ports but never seen it like this. The two bottom ports seems would offer some extra flow but would close pretty fast. Shed any light on this?

Those lower ports are strange. Does not seem like the top of the piston would come down that far. Maybe some other reason for them?

Thanks Guys.
As for the lower big ports, I would call them
lubrication holes. To the best i can figure there
put in for lube and cooling. The piston top doe's
not come down that far.

This looks like a really nice build!! Looking forward to see how it turns out:rock:. I like that intake, would never have thought of making one. How did the impulse passage work for that. So far I am only familiar with the regular saw intake passage as far as the impulse port goes. Real nice work!!

Looks great Lee. I stalled out until my bar gets made. Working on a bunch of other 5ci+ stuff in the meantime.

Beautiful work - I love looking at your projects!
