I use one of 30-40 tractors available. Mostly the MF245 as it turns tight and can maneuver well in the woods, second to that is the 3020. The 3020 doesn't have a 3ph hookup so it is a little easier to snag a log, and it is taller than hell. If I need more HP, I can always grab the 300HP 8630 ;).

Dang PlantBiologist you need to stay out of the woods with that, you might mash a salamander!!!!!!
Mike

LOL!! That is why there are duals all the way around, low compaction ;). No endangered salamanders where I am from, at least to my knowledge.

(note: the picture above is not the one on the farm, just a picture I found on google)

This works pretty good for me. Bodozer Grapple. Its good for doing things other than moving logs too.

I agree it will do some work

ERICJEEPER,
You would probably be AMAZED at what a REAL garden tractor will do if you know how to hook your load so it puts weight on the rear tires when you pull!
Mike

But we all know you need some weight on the front wheels too.
Lots of men have been killed or seriously wounded using small 2 wheel drive tractors to drag logs.Yeah they hook em up so they get a good weight transfer to the back tires. Then the next (Last) thing they know they have a tractor on top of them.
Always be safe and plan ahead, Make sure the butt end can not snag on anything and make the tractor wheelie and flip.
I had a Power King for many years with Chains on the rear tires. Cast iron tractor, Dana rear end and a cast iron Kohler engine.

+1

Kubota BX2230 with a carry-all on the back. I cut logs ~80 inches long, then load them on the trailer with the tractor. I can fill half the trailer with wood, then the tractor finishes it off. Picture below is not my usual setup, as that wood was already cut and I have the splitter mounted on the tractor instead of the carryall, but it's the general idea (and the only picture I have).
