They make AM top covers for this series of saws. I'm not sure about quality, but I think I've seen them on weedeaterman.com or HLSupply.

Hey guys, thanks for following the thread! STILL waiting on this carb kit, I messed up and pre-paid for the kit since I was buying a few other things, well after a week and a day of not seeing it I called the dealer only to have them tell me they just ordered it because they didn't have enough for the minimum order, well now over two weeks of waiting they are telling me it will be here tomorrow....

Soon as the carb kit gets here I can throw the carb on and finally run her through some wood!!

What kind of 036 brian.b? Is it a Pro? Or a standard (non decomp)?

As for aftermarket, the fitment sucks. They were designed for the 360 (basically the same), but the 036 has a spot for a tag amd there aftermarket doesn't, and it has a hump/round top (kinda).

I have a old dirty/faded 034 cover. It came on a donor saw and the person cut a hole for the decomp. So it ain't pretty, but it's functional Yours brian.b, if you want it.

my saw is an 036 pro,,it does have a decomp valve,,i would love to have the cover i just want to have it together so i can start cutting with it to see how it will hold up,,,and get the carb adjusted good,,,every place i go to dont sell the air filter for these saws,,,some have half of it though,,,i bought my piston and ring from superior stockpiles,,it was cheap,,i really wish i had went with better parts ,

Ok guys finally I got the call today that the carb kit came in, so I was able to sneak out and throw it together before all the Christmas Eve activities begin, wasn't able to start her but I'm sure tomorrow I will be able to. I think the hardest part of this whole build is getting the stupid handle trigger assy back together, boy what a stupid design that you need to remove the handle top to remove the carb!!

With the muffler mod what should I start at for my initial carb settings to start this saw up?

Merry Christmas guys! I got out to the garage today and set the mixture screws to 1 turn out like suggested and after about 5-7 pulls (everything's new on this saw) it showed the first sign of life, flipped to half choke and after the second pull she came alive!!!

Sounds mean with the muffler mod, I only let it run a few seconds as I don't have a clutch cover for the saw and can't bolt the chain and bar up. (Anyone have a clutch cover laying around?) but did get oil just start to come out of the new oil line which I was happy to see.

This saw was a big learning curve but it went so much easier and smoother than my first 290 experience, the 290 was assisted by my friend who pretty much walked me through the build. This was all done by me and all you guys on this board. I had fun building it and wish I had another project saw!

Finally got the saw all tuned up, I made the mistake and at first tried to fit the 20" bar and chain I originally picked up for my 290 I built but things weren't working right donu ran down to my buddy who works at the local stihl dealer and I felt like an idiot when he told me the bar and chain wouldn't work on this saw as it needed a 3/8's bar and chain. He swapped out the bar and chain which worked out to be 5$ cheaper, and checked the tune and made a few adjustments. She is all ready to go now and sounds mean! Will be getting her into some wood tomorrow!!

Good looking saw. Been following the thread and I'm glad to see ya get it together. I have an 044 that I've been tinkering on for a few months. Getting ready to put the crank seals on it. Hopefully that's all ill need to do to get it cutting again.

Remember that while there may have been one before her that this one was your first solo. Don't make the mistake that so many of us make and trade her for a newer model. Treat her with respect and when the time comes that most of her days are spent sitting on a shelf, take her out once in a while and remember back to these early days. After all, she was your first.

O

Got the saw out today and wow doin love her!! She sounds mean and cuts like a dream! This is the largest saw I have used and I love it!! Cut smooth and easy and just pulled right through the wood. Thanks so much for all your help guys couldn't have done it with out you.

Now who has an 046 project saw laying around?!
