Well there you go, 2 strokes are wierd to me, I just clean them carby's out and am always amazed how the darned things work coz it seems too simple. :(

The plastic bits are fine it's just the alloy chasis that corrodes.

Check this out: I invited Caseyforrest to grab dinner at Outback tonite, and not only did he insist on paying, he brought me some more firewood, too. So it looks like the 044 should get its first good test tomorrow. I have to get it cut and moved or hidden or something before my wife gets back on Sunday night.

A couple months ago I finally got the crank moved into the other case halves. Then it sat in a box in my living room for a couple months. Then I put it together, but the aftermarket piston pin bearing gave out even before it sputtered for the first time. Another two week wait to get to the shop for a new bearing and some small bits.

C user what brand of aftermarket piston did you use if ya dont mind me askin?

Nice lookin saw BTW,, good job!!!!:blob2:

Like the saw.......and thats some nice clean wood.
I handled a 440 for the first time today....I liked it! :help:

uh oh...TT, you're gonna' want one now. Yup,044's, 440's are very nice saws. Hey computer, is that a 440 air filter cover or a late model 044 cover? When I build my 2 044's I want to get, I want to put a 440 air filter cover on them, they should fit right? I have never put a 440 cover on a 044 before, so I don't know, but I figure it should fit. You guy's ever done it?

It will go right on !!!!!!

Obviously a very good friend, wish I had someone like that over here, but it usually goes the other way - cut and split and all..........;) :biggrinbounce2:

Well, it is what I like to do, so not complaining really........

After lots of delays, the 044 International Edition is up and running! My many thanks to Jeff (FHCW) and Eric (Ekka) for their generosity and assistance.

Background:
Last summer I was in the mood for a project saw (see what I mean about delays?) and Jeff offered an 044 he bought from Ben (NWCS) that he had sitting around, needing to be swapped onto a new case that he had purchased. The price was right, so I sent him some money. A few days later it showed up at my door. It then sat in my garage for a long time, untouched.

After having it sit in a box for a few months I finally figured out what I needed and realized that my cheap project wasn't going to be so cheap after all. Ekka offered to send me the parts I needed for free, if I would cover the shipping from Australia. I sent him some money, too. A few days later, a box of saw parts from Australia showed up at my door.

So tonight my wife went to get her hair done, so I figured it was time to finish the saw. Fifteen minutes and it was back together. Three pulls on choke and two without and she's a runner. Really good compression - super clean cylinder and new piston and rings. Sounds great with the DP muffler cover. I hope to do some cutting this weekend but this feels like a strong saw.

Well, after a very long wait:

I'm interested in the dawgs on your saw. What are the part numbers on each of the dawgs?

Kevin

Good question. I have no idea, as Ekka sent them to me. Do dawgs usually have a P/N on them? Heck if I know. I'll look when I go out to the garage later.

I think this is how it is. Your inside dawg is the standard one, and the outside dawg you have is supposed to be the match for the standard one. According to my 044 IPL the standard dawg part no. is 1128 664 0500 and the matching outside dawg is part no. *1117 664 0500. Not sure what the * means. Reason I'm inquiring is because that is the way I'd like to set up my 044 - with the smaller set of dawgs.

Kevin

They look like the standard inside dawg couple with the the larger outside dawg. Do they line up, and are you able to use the roller chain guard? I can't tell from the pictures.

It doesn't look like you can use the roller chain guard with the set that computeruser has on his 044. In my 044 IPL there is a set of bigger dawgs shown that do use the roller chain guard. The inside dawg part number is: 1122 664 0506 and the outside dawg part number is: 1122 664 0501 . Hope that helps.

Kevin
