yep I suspect the internal check valves were leaky,,,, It doesn't take much for one to act up,,,,

I've seen this on a few 029 lately (HD carb). L check valve is non-replaceable in those... (at least "offically").

After I got the new carb on it, I removed the welch plug to double chech the idle passages and they were clean. I know the needle check valve wasn't sealing vacuum all the way but I don't know if it should seal completely or what. When I sucked through it, I could get a little bit of flow but I don't know if that normal or not.

Yes, My mutant Pinky has the HD filter setup on it. I gotta say I'm impressed, from the looks of it I'd need a particle accelerator to get saw dust through it.

we have one (029, w/same HD carb) on the bench right now and that has exactly the same problem? :bang: drove me nuts til I borrowed a carb off of one of mine just to see if that solved the problem,,,, could not belive that they didin't have one in stock??????

Fired right up and when it came to idle it was like music to my ears. Damn smooth idle. Sorry, for the late response but I was compelled to go cut stuff with it.

I'm not going to dork with this saw anymore, I'll leave the limiter caps in place. Unless I can't tune rich enough. Don't think I'll get a DP cover for it as it has the large hole muffler on it.

Been following this thread with interest, well done Goat on your success.
Do you have a particle accelerator? I only ask as I thought you must if you are cutting with the same setup as in the pic. :monkey:
