I think he landed on his head, not sure for I went on back to bed after I tossed him out. He wasn't right after that but he knew better than to whin anymore,LOL

Hey your back paw.

I never broke a crank seal or a bearing doing it and never will i don't put the screwdriver in that far and i suppose you are gonna tell me you can't remove a clutch with out a clutch tool and a piston stop?I question your knowledge as a mechanic sir.

I don't think you've ever looked at the 044 flywheel in question... put what in how far? Where in the world do you do you shove it? As for the clutch, ever heard of a 19mm socket? Heck, even a 3/4 fits if you have nothing metric.

Stay with the shrimp... and yes, it's a TRANSOM....

Shoddy maintainence is exactly why DC-10's had their engines falling off. Did that register?

What carb make and model do you have now? The one that came with the saw?

Also can you describe the running problem symptoms?

Have you run a compression check

Getting a test carb today, HD-17A (1128 120 0622) to try out. But I'm stuck covering a 12hr shift for a co-worker so won't get to it until tonight.

just to see what your finished TE job yeilded?????

just curious,,,,did you just clean up the piston and get fresh rings,,,, or get a piston kit I can't remember???

Walbro HD-10A. Bought the saw, it needed bearings...So, I did both bearings, oil seals, piston and rings. Set the saw 1 turn out on L & H and it starts but won't idle. Messing with the adjustments I can get it to idle with L 1 1/4 & H 3/4 out. But the idle is still poor and the accel is not as snappy as it should be.

Huh?

As I suspected.

Try what I suggested with 1.5 out or a little less on the low and raise the idle stop to keep up the idle RPM.

I should correct what I had said with this qualification. The old
"standard" that I spoke of was for most 2-strokes in our area and elevation and was where most engines seemed to operate the best here.

The Walbro carbs always stated one turn out for both low and high speed but they never ran all that close to that in actual use.

The newer carbs went with a finer thread on the adjustment needles which helped in fine tuning and also began incorporating jets in the high speed circuits which brought on the "new standard" of one turn high and low.

i don't go shrimping all i did was fix the boat for a friend of my uncles. Some call it transom some call it transit.I have never looked at a 044 yet but if i do i will bet i can fix it just as good as anything i ever fixed.

The HD10 has fine screws (with retainer springs) - just a "17" without the limited cap block attached. The 10 is a good carb.

One thing to check is that your H fixed jet is a 0.70, not a 0.66 (high altlitude). Won't affect the idle but will mess up the top end needle calibratation and you might run out of adjustment if you've modded the muffler. The jet size numbers are stamped into the top of the jet, one on each side.

Out here the HD's all run just about spot on at 1 turn out on H&L, or a fraction leaner (std muffer), maybe 1 1/8 to 1 3/16 on H if the muffler is opened up.
