I ordered a few parts from Bryce yesterday. Last night, I reminded myself that I need to order that package of 4mm balls that I've been looking at for a few days. I would have already got them, but I didn't really need 10. Then I got thinking, if they had their special little place in a drawer, I wouldn't ever have to HUNT for one again & I would even have enough to give somebody else one that needed it. I guess I need to be DOING more & THINKING less.

Tru dat for me too. Typical paralysis by analysis! Hell, I've been staring at an 066 project for almost three years and it STILL hasn't put itself back together yet no matter how hard I stare at it. Have it all sorted out on the bench and intend to finally get to it today.....to make room for an 076, of course! (hopefully).

That's funny we both ordered the balls. Between the two of us we got a lot of balls!!!!!
There was only 1 available. I was going to get the ones from New Hampshire, isn't that the ones u got? It was a package of 10.

I guess that means you're the only one with the balls.

Hey Poge, are u still looking for a 076 cranckcase? There's one on ebay right now. It says 076/ts760, but it looks like it has an oiler provision with a plug in it. From what I can see, on this little tablet screen, it doesn't look real pretty. Might be ok though.

I have a line on a couple 076 projects via one of the cooler dealers in my area who sorta keeps an eye out for me. He has two runners right now that don't need much (can you say $$$???) and a couple basket cases buried out back in his pile....with the latter being more up my alley and probably a lot more in line with my budget if I can talk him out of em or work out a trade for something I may have that'd be more sell-able to his average homeowner customer. Gotta get a couple other lingering projects out of the way first. And as Rocky mentioned, saws don't seem to be moving too well this winter..., which obviously keeps funds a little tight for pursuing new acquisitions via cash deals.

In the meantime, a gentle caress of my 051 every now and again is keeping me relatively calm and under control!

Kewl!! Beer Mugs

I just think these loggers threw their saws in the back of a pickup and let em slide around for 20 years. They certainly didnt baby them!! It hard to fix the bottom of these worn out saws. When the av hole is not whole you can tell the bottom is not good. I love how every item description from Bryce is "good, usable condition" and thats it!!!!! LOL!!!!!! I do buy a ton a stuff from him. His second guy is really good on the phone, nice guy.

Sunday was 40 degrees I worked on the rolling bench in the driveway in a T-shirt, felt so good to not be cooped up in the house.
built a carb for an old school 026 and got it running for a buddy (damn thing has been here 3 months) then I got to work on the 075 again :)

I managed to split the case using the splitter and a few washers, scraped down all the old gasket material and removed all the little bits and pieces.
I used a square easy out and a baby hammer to tap it in to the broken oil pump until I could ease it out, easy peasy.
Of course I tapped the end of the flywheel without remembering to put the nut on it so I mangled the end of the flywheel , damn impatience, I pulled a really nice flywheel out of another crankcase that was already split.
I got everything packaged to send for powder coating tonight.
stihl need to hunt down some bits and pieces and finalize a few deals with guys here
the dealer called to tell me that three more pieces that have been on backorder since Jan 3rd have3 been deleted by Stihl and gone NLA :(

I haven't seen a splitter like that. Is it necessary for the tube to be that long?

I ordered a set of double dawgs from Custom Chainsaw. They have them laser cut for many different saws. I asked if both dawgs were the same & he said they were. To me, your's look different from one another. I guess I'll find out.

One of these days, I wonder if I could trouble somebody for a template or a precise measurement for the location of the hole that I need to drill for the manual oiler plunger. I'm sure I could probly bolt the oiler in and spot the location but I would feel safer with a measurement or a template.

Also, does anybody have a pair of bar studs they're willing to sell? I wonder what's different about them from other models.

Your saw (er, pile of parts) is looking good DDave. You having somebody local doing your powder coating?

I need muffler and full wrap handle in minty nice shape, a top cover badge from any model, also need the plastic for rear handle and the inner rubber backing for the rear handle assembly.

Towingace I am sure I can send you a case half with the oiler hole, PM me an address
I think I have bar studs as well, not 100%

I have 4 different dogs in the box of parts I think the two larger ones are for the 075 and the smaller for the 051, all four are different
I will have a metric ass-ton of leftovers so if guys from this thread need stuff, PM me it won't be long till it starts to make me crazy having it around :)
I am having Glock37 do the powdercoating, I sent him an 044 10mm and we are working a deal, I think the 044 is headed to mastermind shortly.

the case splitter is the stihl clutch side splitter, it accommodates all types of cases so the horn is long to allow for long crankshaft ends like the 075, normally it is about half that tall when working on modern saws.
Dave

Hey DDave, do you plan on running a full wrap? If so, that clutch cover may not work, as it doesn't have the notch on the bottom, where the handle mounts.

OK, you just posted & answered my full wrap question.

Oh POOP!!!
that is the only cover I had with the brake parts, the others are all the non brake style, I may have to...........think and procrastinate some more :)

There's a really nice 076 muffler on evilbay. I don't know if $75 is a great deal or not, but it is a nice one.

Hey Rocky, did you get that cranckcase? It appears to be gone.

No I wasnt buying that, the bottom of the case is worn like I said beyond any goodness. Dave I can match you up with either match of the dawgs as I have many but like you not many pairs. We trade and then both wind up with a "pair" :) Evilbay!!!! lol I love it!! The was one cover but the bottom bolt hole was broke off. Junk for something minty. One thing I find aside from the chain mangling the full wrap bar is that the bottom of the bolt holes are worn through to the point that its just a hole, wont tighten up to a bolt, watch out for that! As long as you can find one that isnt bent, buy the tubing and cover it. I also have plenty of extra studs, not minty though. The are bigger than the the 045 series thats why the bars wont fit. Look out for stripped stud bolt holes, very common in the case. Instead of locktite I use a dab of clear fingernail polish to hold stuff. It works great, holds, can be undone, cheap, and comes with a nice little brush, 1.99$ ! Glad to see you guys getting at it!!

Heres some pics of a few of the mufflers i have. I think the center one is best. No rust on the bottom, original black paint. No dents. No oil, crud buildup on the back.
