Inquiring minds want to know.... :monkey: Which saw will outcut the other in large hardwood (assume 42" diameter) with the same bar, chain, and sprocket combinations for each saw (say 42" bars).

I've heard that an 056 will pull a 42 inch or 50 inch bar with some authority:chainsaw: . Not sure my 660 would do the same.

I didn't realize these two were the same cc's (roughly). I'm assuming the 056, being old school, probably has a longer stroke and hence more grunt? Its probably also turning fewer RPM's, so I'm wondering with that lenght bar how close the two saws might be in the cut. Yeah, now I'm thinking 880. My wife will kill me. I'll be cutting a lot of wood that diameter, so was curious.

There are three sizes of the 056... same stroke, bigger bore.. 056, 056 super, 056 mag/mag2

I have a DP 066/660, and it will kick the butt of most 056's.. More low end torque on the 056mag2, but the 660 wins big time at the top end.

should

A 660 should pull it. But you will be better off with 075, 076,084,088,880,090, and of course 3120XP size saws. They will pull it with a lot more authority than a 660. Plus you will have one of the big brutes. :D  :rockn: :buttkick:

Was checking the AcresInternet site for 'BIG' saw specs, from 056-090 there are plenty of models that aren't what they seem Ex; 090 can have as little as 103cc and as much as 137cc, big difference, have to know what model your looking at to get what you want. It's worth looking into.

OK. Now should I keep my eyes out for an 075 or 076 as a cheaper way to buy in to big? Will those saws pull comparably to a brand new 880? Was always curious how they'd stack up in big wood and this seems to be the way folks are directing me. Here I told my wife just last week. Don't worry honey, I'll never need a bigger saw than this. ;)

Those old school Stihl slow turnin' torque monsters are dinosaurs. If your gonna do a lot of "BIG" wood... get the 660 or the 880. Don't get me wrong, I love the old saws... but would not wanna go back to runnin' an 076.

That saw is responsible for my arms goin' numb, back bein' bad, and my filling in my teeth fallin' out now and again.

Gonna avoid the Suck Back as much as possible. Will probably have to "make due" with the 660 in the big wood. Sure am glad that I didn't settle for the 460. Gas - sorry to hear about the back. Got a similar problem going and don't need to add insult to injury. Kinda why I steered away from the 880. I'm only 5'8" and that is a lot of saw.

Well said. And don't forget to ad...the hearing loss, the shoulder seperations from packing them in rough country, and the feeling that you got early in the morning

What was that???? Gotta admit the recently added dual port added some to the hearing loss quotient
