Hi everybody,
I'm new to this board as a member, however I have for months read this forum. It is the direct cause of my relapse in chainsaw addiction.
Approx. 6 months ago, I needed a chain saw, only cut small stuff, here there is little big wood to cut. I purchased a used Husky 136. It is adequate for my needs around here. Next I happened upon a Stihl 066. Excellent condition, 36" bar. I put a 20" bar on it so I could get more use out of it. It also was used, paid 250 for it.

One week ago, I located and purchased an 088, with a 42" cannon bar, .404 chain. Also in excellent condition. That set me back less than 500. This saw looks rediculous cutting a 14" pine!
My wife will not let me bring these into the house, she doesn't understand. Where does this end? I'm already looking for a mid size saw.

Thanks for all this forum has done. It is a great info source, and by reading posts daily, I can tell it is comprised of a group of great people with the same addiction.

Welcome, you're not alone. I could cut all my firewood and take care of my property with my 026. Still I can't stop "collecting" chainsaws either, I've got a few(4) 015s , two 009s an 011 the 026 two Jonsereds 49SPs an 064 a Homelite XL-12 thats being professionally restored! I've parted with an 017, 2 xl-2s (gotta find another for some inexplicable rerason) and gave away a Jonsereds 49SP.

good deals too

sounds like you got some GOOD deals on the stihls also....ebay don't have near those deals and I got a great deal on a 066 with 32" bar for 300.00 and also put a 25" bar on it.....you might go to madsens1.com for chain......:)

It never ends! Grow to love it. :) Good shooting on that 088.

I went from a cheap electric to a 110cc Jonsereds 111S over the course of a couple years. Sure get funny looks from the neighbors bucking 8" firewood with this thing... I now have somewhere around ten chainsaws in all. Always coming, always going.

The day I got my 090 running I took out out and cut down a rotten pin oak in the yard. Only 20" butt or so.
36" bar did look funny but the feeling was good :D

I bought a 088 powerhead last week for 1450. I also have a 084 with the 42"Cannon but don't use the big bar clearing some big old ugly wolf trees to open up the canapy for the young stock. Seth...peanutbutter and bread this week

Nelson,

If you decide you want another new 088 let me know. I believe I can do better than $1450 without a bar. As for saw fever I started with a Homelite Super EZ and now I have around 50 chainsaws. That includes a couple two-man saws that my wife will not help run. I need to dig all of them out and take a picture of all of them together.

Hi there, I can get new, in box, as issued, unused 088's for $1,050 USD. delivered with 21" bar and chain, anywhere in the continental United States, comes with 25' roll of chain. Why pay more when you can get the saw plus extras from Gypo.
John

a 42in bar on a 066? that saw barely powers a 32 in bar to my liking. i just picked up a 394xp and a a 32 in bar will be the biggest bar i'll put on it. any thing bigger calls for a 3120 on my mind. scotty we need more power.

thats some good deals on them stihls over there in SC. umhh....what the hell are you cutting over ther with a 42" bar? hopefully you have a 16" bar on the 088 for some fun, eh:D

Hey Spike it

i always used huskys. maybe my boss's 066 is just a dog of an old saw. the new 385xp i picked up will out the 066 hands down. thats why i just spent his money and picked up a 394 this week end. i regret throwing in my 2 3120's when i sold my business. i wish i would have kept 1 of them.

Skike it

Alot of guys up here in the 'burgh use 066's, never heard one complaint. Husky's would be the way to go if there are more dealers in your area. There's an equal share of both here. That's one of the reasons I run alot of Shindaiwa saws. The distributor for my state and 7 others is in my city. Plus they have a great rep here. Rich.

where to buy?

Who can tell me where to get the best price on a new 088? I just purchased one, and I won't say what I spent. My loco...uh, I mean local dealer wanted $1550, needless to say I looked elsewhere. Who has advice? Thanks!

Welcome to the Arboristsite first off and secondly I would try and find Gypo a.k.a John Lambert he might still have a few new 088's I'm sure there probally cheaper than 1550.00...There are a few others here that sell saws I'm sure they'll read this post..Also you could check out Madsens.com..

Good Luck

Later Rob..

I would second the recomendation that you seek out Gypo, he`s a rock solid character, with emphasis on character, LOL. He also goes buy the handle sunlovr3, or something of that nature on ebay. He has about a thousand positive feedback. From what I recall of his recent 088 offerrings I would expect you to save atleast a few hundred by going through John. Russ

I just got back from Ebay and it shows that Gypo doe'nt have anything for sale at this time..I would have to say shoot him a PM or Email..

Later Rob..

In addition to Gypo, I've recently seen a few guys selling new 088s and 3120s for under $1000 on eBay.
