My 3 saw plan last year was 441, 066, and sp81. This year I added a xl925, 288xp, and 181se. Then there are the big boys, 1050a , 2000, and 125.

First off, the premise of this thread is a 3 saw plan, but one really should never fuel or sharpen in the woods/landing, and cold weather hasn't been factored either. Therefore:


Ported 346XP for most use but a 550XPG for colder weather or backup for fuel/sharpening, (see above)

Ported Jred 2159 and 562XPG, again cold weather contingency.

372 XPG for cold weather and Dolmar 7900 for bigger stuff.

288 XP Lite, for biggest stuff. (Still in shop awaiting porting)

About the fueling, you just need to avoid spills, and move 10' or more from fueling site before starting engine.

Granberg file guide resides in my tool bag for chain touch-up every second fill-up, or when chain is acting dull.

For "never" I substitute "as required".

Isn't it just easier to grab another saw rather than refueling or adding bar oil?

The 200T and 346xp can do 90% of the wood I see, for a big saw any 372xp, 385xp, 390xp, ms660 would work also.

I run a 357 (18"), 562 (24"), and just picked up a 365xt that will be having some work done to it. I plan to pick up a 20" bar for the 562 and use the 24 on the 365. If I could get a full wrap 550 or 346 I'd run that and just keep the 357 as a backup saw.
