I would like to hear some opinions on the 3120XP, The info that I have is that it is approx. 5lbs heavier than the 395XP. This particular saw is discounted to a great price, and would probably be overkill for the work I do, however price/lb, it seems like a hard deal to pass up.

As we are a long drive from service (120 miles, one way), reliability becomes a major concern. The other question is chain guage, I would prefer 3/8 rather than .404, but is this a wise thing to do on a saw this size?

THX fo rany help you may offer!!!

Brent:confused:

I run .404, .063 gauge on mine, but I run 42 and 60 inch bars on it. Nothing wrong with .375, even .050 gauge, if you are careful and are running shorter bars.

If you get the saw, you might consider haveing it modified, which will make it get up and talk!!!

THX rbtree,

What would you recommend as/modifications? Seeems to me that a 119cc saw would have a little zip:p and I would be curious as to your response to the shorter bar?????

Frankly, I wasn't all that impressed with the 3120 in stock form. But after Dennis Greffard worked it over, it really came alive. Most wood saw mods include muffler work, thorough porting, and milling the cylinder a bit to increase compression and shorten the squish band. Dennis left the carb stock, as well as the ignition timing (I think). I also kept the stock module, which limits the rpm. Changing those three things would give more power, but also cost more. The saw now has more than ample power to pull the 60 inch bar pretty darned well.

But I sure liked how it cut with a 24 inch bar and Art
Martin race chain!!
