If the Husky has about .6 HP more than the 5100 and is a real hot rod...what makes the 5100 more desirable over the 346? Maybe i'm mistaken but after reading countless threads on these two saws...i'm still on the fence. Been looking at a 350 or 353 but seems like there is a few good prices on the 5100 but i'm a big fan of Husky. Granted the 350/353 aren't in the same league as the 346/5100 from what i'm gathering but a 346 would be very nice...I want one real bad but there's this thing on my shoulder telling me to go with the 5100 :dizzy: For a homeowner saw that I want to last for a looong time and don't want to be deprived of power.....help me out.

Your facts are correct, but backwards! The 346xp is a 3.4 hp saw. The Dolmar 5100 is a 4hp saw; advantage Dolmar.

The Husky 346xp is a 10.6 lb saw while the Dolmar is a 11lb+ saw; advantage Husky.

The price of both saws is very similar however, dealer support is not. That said, you can easily buy Dolmar parts from out of state and these parts seem to be not overly expensive and shipping is reasonable.

To be honest, I cant remember anyone even having to tear down a Dolmar 5100 and do all kinds of repairs; actually, the opposite is true.

If you buy a Husky, you may be lured into the never ending "ford vs chevy" tired-overplayed Stihl vs Husky debate. Why not just buy the Dolmar and this way you will *know* that based on price, performance, horsepower, and weight, neither brand has a saw in the 50cc category that can outperform the 5100!.

Dewwd, sorry about that...I was looking at the KW rating :buttkick: my bad. Either case, dealer support is not an issue....I have a Dolmar dealer about 30 min away so I will do some price checking. Why is it so hard to buy one semi-do-all saw when you know darn well you WILL have multiple saws? :)

I like primer bulbs. I had an old Sachs Dolmar 120 super, and it had one. It would start first pull every time regardless of how long it had been sitting. I've yet to have a Stihl or Husky do that.

A good saw doesn't need them.......A properly setup carb will always preform like a top..

The 120 super was one of the best saws made, imo. And the Husky's and Stihls that I've run sure as heck could use one, 'cause you have to pull them through about 4 times before they'll fire.

I agree.... (damn, did I say that?)

The primer bulb is great for quickly circulating fresh gas though the carb (no, it does NOT inject rich gas into the cylinder), and you get an instant 1 pull start.. Should be on all homeowner or occasional use small saws.

Space - the Stihl 192 and 250C (among others) have primer bulbs, and start first/second pull...

Actually Andy... The Sachs-Dolmar 120 Super DID inject fuel mix right into the air cleaner elbow for that PRIMED effect. Then the Till HS carb took over.

I'll put in another plug for primer bulbs. They are simple, old-school technology that works.
