the windows are for getting the transfer of fuel done quicker and more efectively. more or less the fuel taking a short cut to the combustion chamber

Try harder Will. I could have done that with a 1/4" drill bit and a 7/32" file ;)

If I wanted to...

LOL, that's not far off from what I used to do. I used to drill through a bunch of holes in the drill press. Then grind by hand, took way longer and didn't look near as good.

Thanks Terry.

Well another night of no saw work, amazing how much time one can waste away playing around on the lathe with new toys.

The piece of angle iron I cut to hold the piston, I thought well, can't have it looking like that. I'll try out the new flycutters as well, so sharpened up a bit and squared it up real nice. Can't believe the finish I get with steel.

That does have a nice finish. 4120?

Well finally back to the saw today. Got the piston all finished up, winows all cut and some grinding on the inside by hand. Got the timing check and marked in the cylinder, now just have to mark out how wide to go then start grinding. Oh, BTW Matt, by the time I raise the ex the skewed port will be no longer, after dropping the cylinder as much as I did, there is loads of room to make it right.

Going to go with 99°atdc on the ex,

118-119°atdc on the transfers,

intake is at 155°dur now, will likely go up to 158°

It gets annoying when some people go way off topic and then you end up with a few pages of garbage.

I know what you mean Will. It's like this time when I was young and my daddy put holes in pistons and they flowed well and he said they were ace and then he didn't and my uncle said they were good again so he tried it again but they didn't work so he stopped. I was going to go on but then saw the few pages of garbage bit ;)

A little more progress today. Got the intake and ex done, now just starting the upper transfers, once the uppers are done that its back on to check my timing see if my layout was right, hopefully!

You guys that port saws for $$$, don't know how you do it. If I had to actually make money at it, I'd have to charge $500 a saw for the amount of time I spend on them, and even at that I wouldn't be getting ahead if I had to account for all the money in tools I have invested. Maybe I'm just slow? Who knows.

One upper done.
